Anyone know how much the 7" of Gayle Adams - "Baby I Need Your Loving" went for on John Manships auction. I think it was sitting at £200 with one day to go.

Upwards to 300£ i think which is really sick! Even demand is no excuse to pay that money for such an easy-to-get 45...

Anyone wants to buy my copy the ultra rare "let love come between us" by James & Bobby Purify, only 3957478463£

Sorry..

best

I gave away a copy of this about 3 years back coz I thought it was awful....

Why anybody would want it when you can get the infinitely superior original for a tenner or less is beyond me.

That said I'm just a little bit sick!!!!!!!!!

I think it's sad taking all that money from people who must be mentally impaired. I saw a 7" going for about $40 on US eBay just a couple of weeks ago. If people must hear an alternative to the 4 Tops unsurpassable cut, the Supremes album version is much better than Gayle Adams.

To be honest I like it, Not worth that money but, thats up to the person who's paying for it, But I think it's a good dancer.

Mischief (not loged in)

Definetly agree the 4 tops cant be beaten, but people buy records for all sorts of reasons ie completing a collection of all the artists releases, or an entire label etc.

OFFERS INVITED FOR MY MINT UK DEMO BEFORE I TAKE IT TO CLEETHORPES.

JUST THINK WHAT BULLSHIT HE COULD SAY ABOUT THIS-ON THE LINES OF "SUPER RARE UK DEMO-NEVER HAD ONE FOR SALE"-NOT IN 30-YEARS OR IS THAT ANOTHER DEALER I'M THINKING OF.

PS WILL TAKE TRADES-SOLID OLDIES PLEASE.

-NEVER HAD ONE FOR SALE"-NOT IN 30-YEARS

That's has made me laugh!

Any body else got any northern dealer's cliches to share?

My favourite is "recommend". I always think this translates as "it's shite and that's why you've never heard of it, and why I can't get rid of it!

Here's my effort at a sales pitch:

Just got a mint copy of Eamon's northern rarity 'I Don't Want You Back' from the bargain bin in HMV; my first copy in over thirty years of dealing! Filling the floors up & down the country. £2 now, but what price in 20 year time?! Just think of all those jam sandwiches you'll be able to swap it for in your nursing home!!!

The playing surface is shagged beyond belief - fine for DJs

My favourite is when a dealer say a record is big in Scandinavia - means 3 people bought it :-D

Other dealer cliches,

The sexual undertone "A Hard One" or "Could Go Big" and the toilet humour "A Floater"

Here's a few classics

Faultless Vocals=Boring Shite, like listening to paint dry

Great Ender=As above

Written and produced by=Can't think of anything better to say about it

I Can't Recommend This Highly Enough=I REALLY want to get rid of this

Plays for Me=I'm sick of it and want the money to buy something new

Plays for (Anyone Else)=Jesus, I wouldn't be caught dead playing this

Recommened to me by....=Bought it blind and hated it, I want my money back

Wigan/Mecca...etc classic=Has had it's day

Still gets plays=Only if YOU buy it

Great/Popular Artist=What was he/she/they thinking of recording this crap

Very Collectable Label=You certainly wouldn't buy it for the song

Very under-rated=Completely ignored for a reason

Great version of....=Not as good as.....

Last couple=Have had these ages and just want to see the back of them

Sure to go up in price=If you buy it you'll be paying way over the odds

Seen listed at £???=It didn't sell that's why it's so cheap now

When these are gone that's it!!!= I'm never taking the chance of getting stuck with these again.

Big sound in ?/? spin=You've never been there! Have you?

Get it now before it's too late=Too late for me to make some money back, that is.

First time I've had this= Ye' and the last.

Honest John :-)

Quality post John.

How about:

Writing on label - fucking brat of a kid went mental in my record box with a crayon.

Top class RnB - Rock n Roll

Out of left field - shite, sounds like the crew were on acid

Personal fave - If I sell this the missus will let me have a jump.

RARE DEMO OR RARE ISSUE DEPENDING ON WHAT HE HAS AT THE TIME.

I DO LOVE THE SAYING OK FOR DJs. ANYBODY WOULD THINK ALL OUR RECORDS ARE NACKERED.
