Very cheap for these days.

They were white I think? (not 100% sure) but a cracking record nonetheless.

and not from Detriot either - somwhere down south I think....

doesn't do a lot for me this record. The intro is especially off putting.

Seller is from new York area I recall

I reckon it was probably a case of people not bothering to bid thinking that it was going to go go sky high. Must admit it's never been a massive fav of mine, always a bit manic in the chorus' for me, although I do like the verses.

PS. good to see ya on Sat. Nev, I take it you got back home alright.

Hi Jordi,

verses not too bad but the intro and the chorus just so messy and spoil the record for me.

The label is from Nashville or Knoxville will have to check att home.

This record is the dogs boxxox.Think this is about the third thread that has been started on it.A copy went for $364 last year but I bet a lot of people didnt bid because they never thought that it would not be in reach.A great production and nice use of strings and brass and definately one for the dancers not the giffers.

Thought it was Kentucky Steve.

louisville Kentucky Dave :lol:

Think the Louisville address is a bit mis-leading. A couple of buddys in Louisville, who claim to have or know every Louisville or related record. Say that no one that was involved in the music scene there has ever heard of the group or any of the people involved. These two guys were very much part of the scene there in the 60's and 70's, one was a member of The Heartbreakers.

The Issue copies are Green. The Demos are White

Regarding it not being a Louisville record I can remember Soul Bowl telling the story of how he bought a 100 issue copies out of Vines One Stop in Louisville as part of a load of 180,000 records. Which for some unusual reason the proprietor sold the records for 10 cents a pound (lb) weight.

mmmmm 10 cents a pound............ thats how Tats was buying burgers, when we were in Kentucky last month.

Must have spent well over 100 dollars!

:lol:

Nonetheless just a stunning example of the Marmite music we adore.Yet again,a one-of-it's kind sound since i guess there's nothing like it in any shape,form or plagiarized sample out there. First heard this on Richard Searlings' Cellarfull of Soul radio show back in the 90''s and will always be indebted to Richard for that.One of three 45's i would like to own before i meet my maker!!!!

Intro = Brilliant

Vocal = Brilliant

Chorus = Brilliant

Middle bit = Brilliant

Fade out = Brilliant

Even the name DETROiT SOUNDS OF FRICTION is firkin brilliant.

imvho

It was played at Wigan c/u as Mel Britt.... Only ever remember 1 copy on Soul Bowl for £12.00, I bought it... :)

A Poke spin at cleethorpes dayer's ( 78/79) well before wigan as i remember, tho i did play it at my 1 ( & only ) visit behind the decks at the casino circa 1980. Hiya Darren, best, Arthur.

Indeed it was a previous spin by Poke, but as Poke sold up - Arthur as I do recall, ensured this record did not remain silent throughout the rare modern days, Although between 1984 and during 1986 - DSOF was indeed a much well established modern oldie.

Thanks.

Good evening Martin, I and others were always of the understanding Darren's copy was exchanged for cash and several 45's, as a part ex deal. But hey hoy....................rolleyes.gif. Others closer to him - know otherwise stocker or not.

Yup, just checked my copy....if John found 100 copies there, that's probably a large part of the press that got 'dumped'.

Am really glad that this record is so highly thought of, it'll have it's day one day.

IMHO Steve this 45 has had it's day but remains highly thought of in small circles, but then the same can be spoken of Melvin Moore.

A pity you were not on more, you and Mario had some great records at that time.... Still, at least we had Snaith....

J.M. Sold it for me, it went for £3886.00 in the end, I'd had a lot of good years out of it playing it regular at 80's nighters, Cleggy etc.....

You win some, you lose some. I once sold Rob Smith a copy of Parisians for £5.00, always thought it sounded too rock for my taste...

Yes but what I mean Nick is that it's never really been that popular. I know it's been championed, played etc. but interest in it has always been slightly eclectic IMHO

Sure, many would agree with that fact - Steve. Point taken and I for one, fully accept your posted above comments.
