If you asking for the crow label (Joseph Webster) it was part of Flaming Arrow from Chicago (info from R&B indies)

I recently found a copy of number 6969 and the label states that the artists are The Esquisites with Reuben Fisher. Can anyone shed some light on this? Are there 2 versions of Get up and dance with the same label number?

Paul - do you mean Crow was a Chicago label, or that it was a Detroit label linked to Flaming Arrow in Chicago?

More often than not when I have seen reference to Crow releases they have been described as Detroit recordings and the label a Detroit label.This includes, for instance, several recent John Manship auctions.

Incidentally, the Goldmine CD Tryin' To Make Ends Meet - Rare Vintage Detroit Funk features the Flaming Arrow release of Jumpin' With Popeye by James Havior (Flaming Arrow 46)

The James Havior release of Girl, Girl, Girl on Crow 39 includes on the label "Recorded At Magic City Studios - Detroit Mich." (see scan)

Or is it just that James Havior was a known Detroit recording on what was essentially a Chicago label?

Then, in Keith's Groovesville USA book the address for both Crow and Flaming Arrow is shown as 10049 Terry, Detroit

I'm a bit confused now - it's like that Detroit Chicago thing with the Brothers of Soul, B-K-E, Boo, Aquarius etc. :lol:

Eugene Davis, lived in Detroit, he is survived by two sons and Angela. He worked closely with engineer Bob Dennis who after leaving Motown worked at Bumpshop/GM studio, now called The Disc on East Nine Mile. I believe some if not all were recorded there. But also there was possibily a connection with Macon, Georgia, as they recorded a number of artists from there, Nancy Butts & Arthur Ponder.

 

Most of the 45's on Crow that I have found over the years have been found in Detroit, Where as Flaming Arrow you find all over the place, as much of it was distributed by Atlantic
