Pete S Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 It's off a (bootleg) acetate, and is labelled LAFAYETTE - FIRST DEGREE LOVE what is this please, is that the real artist? Great record, let me know if you need a clip
Sebastian Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 (edited) It's a previously unissued tune by Lafayette Vaughan which was included on Goldmine's "Detroit Soul From The Vaults Vol. 2" CD (GSCD 20). There was a track by him called "That's Bad" on their "The Lost Soul Of Detroit" CD as well (GSCD 21). According to the liner notes: "Recorded in November 1971. Basically a street person of Detroit who set up his own release at no cost to the company to be able to say he had made a record" Edited September 9, 2010 by Sebastian
jocko Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 It's off a (bootleg) acetate, and is labelled LAFAYETTE - FIRST DEGREE LOVE what is this please, is that the real artist? Great record, let me know if you need a clip Pete that is so spooky, I have been meaning to ask about this over last few days as have been thinking of this for some bizarre reason. I used to have this on an acetate, with no label thought, and I think it might have been 10" rather than 7". Pretty sure I was told it was cut from tape and no vinyl existed. It was a double sided with a fantastic deep soul thing by them on the other side, which I believe was very in demand in Japan, it was an unissued thing as far as I remember and at that time was the only acetate kicking around, it had come to me as a present from Colin Law who had bought it from Tim Brown I seem to remember. I would suspect he is the best bet for info on this. I gave it a as a loan to a friend to play out and then, for various reasons, never seen him again, so lost it, so would definitely like a clip, I remember it as a great but odd tempo'd screaming dancer, so would love to hear it against my memory. Played this at my last set at 100 club to a number of nodding heads but not many dancers!

Makes sense actually because the next track on this acetate is by The Metros "Don't let her" which I presume is also from the Goldmine cd's?
Jumpinjoan Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 What a fantastic track this is. As is the Metros. Brings back memories of Shotts. Great times eh Jock?
