Genre: BluesRecord Size: Single (7-Inch)Sub-Genre: Rock'n'roll, Northern Soul.Speed: 45 RPM
I collect SUN records, rockabilly is my thing. A few years back I bought a hand full of Sun Demo Acetates ( lacquer on Aluminium ). Amongst them is this one by Lou Roberts. Lou Roberts was released on the MGM label and is sought after by Northern Soul collectors. This demo is rare, not Just because it was recorded at SUN records/ Sam Phillips Recording Studios of Nashville and Memphis, but because it is also a double sided demo. This demo was engineered by Stan Kessler, who worked at Union Avenue during the 50's.Stan Kessler worked with Charlie Feathers and also wrote for Elvis. This acetate was recorded at the new SUN studio in Madison Avenue. The Madison Avenue studio was built in 1958 and although bands recorded there, was not officially opened until 1960. I'm not sure if these tracks have ever been released. Lou Roberts does not appear in Colin Escotts " Good Rocking Tonight book. As far as the SUN records history goes ......this guy is off the radar.
Two good tracks. " It's not me " and " Funny way of showing your love "
Any information on this guy is welcome......did these tracks see release?
Take a look on sandfordway's profile on youtube, there is a comment from met1bama "this guy is my uncle his real name is Louie Robertson, 1943-1999" . is that the same Louie Robertson who recorded " I'm gonna rock " on SUN ?
I would strongly advise to pay extra POSTAL INSURANCE on this item. It is heavier than an ordinary record but easily damaged....due to the thinner brittle vinyl acetate coating used.
