Should Debate Be Allowed On Sales Posts?

Forums are for debate ,but i thought a debate was when or where someone is inviting a debate ??

Since when is a sales page a debate page ??

Surely the only right of reply is via pm or email to the tune of " I'LL TAKE IT " or "WILL YOU TAKE THIS FOR IT?"

I don't think any seller on here would appreciate me posting on their sales ...."hey i know where you can get it cheaper ,pm me andf i'll tell you"

Its been said so many times now ,it's becoming boring ......IF IT'S OVERPRICED ,IT WON'T SELL !

And for the record ...how many collectors have never ever bought a record and then seen it listed afterwards for less

My previous reply said ,ALL SALES SHOULD BE LOCKED ...then only the seller can edit cos there really is no need for anyone to post anything on a sales page .

If someone is asking for a pm or email ,then that's the correct and only procedure to reply .

The only exception i can think of is ,if someone has spotted a mistake by the seller ,like not grading or some other missed detail .

Definitely no place for people to go off on one with ,"f**k me thats overpriced buddy "

Oddly though the people who make the comments never sell on here or they'd know it is bad etiquette!

I've seen a few comments stating that sales posts should be locked, there is nothing to stop the seller locking the topic

I think if I were pushed into a corner I would have to agree with Nev's comment that a sales page isn't a debate page.

But I have to say...i've always thought that sales has always run pretty smoothly to be honest...& if you think of the problems that it could throw up it is a credit to the site & the people who use it imo

at the end of the day the guys trying to sell a record(maybe overpriced in some of your eyes) if someone wants to pay that price thats up to them,im sure the seller who i would assume is an honest bloke really didnt want this kinda shit on here,give him a break for feck sake

If you'll forgive me, I think the point Derek was trying to make Nev, is it's a public forum - you pays your money, you takes your choc ice..

End of the day no one would want to purposefully spoil a sale for anyone and 99% of the time all would keep schtum and rightly so.

Thing that started this (imo) was the 1% exception that warranted comment (again imo). Topic starter didn't take it particularly badly, there was a discussion as such and that was that.

Re-inventing the wheel and over naval examination not necessary.

as far as comments on sales about peoples prices etc..

If some one put a boot up at full price of an original, id like to think some one would say...

we've all been caught out ... just some dont admit it

Price wise is a tough one..

everyone is entitled to list what they want for whatever so whos to say

if someone list a record for £100 and you have one for £30

you can put it up for sale at the same time..

after all you only selling records like the other seller..

I had to buy an exhaust for my car the other day.. was quoted £800 rang around got it for £400..

I bought the £400 one...

makes sense... and the same goes for records... its down to the buyer to do homework..

more so than the seller...

records that cost £800 don't usually come round too often and you can't always ring round for one cheaper.

I guess, at the end of the day, there's no law dictating how much you charge when it's a private sale. It's worth what the buyer is prepared to pay. I'd say it's nobody's business what anyone charges for a record whether it's cheap or overly expensive. Annoying, but allowable

If it's overpriced in terms of what's 'usual' then you can always make an offer and hope it's accepted.

I think, your post in the sales thread was just as unnecessary as asking for offers on a UK Action 45.

I think it's up to Big C how he goes about selling it, Pete.

However his ad bumps the others downwards and as he first started selling this on here 6 months ago there's obviously some disconnection between what he wants and what he's been offered. Bottom line it seems like a waste of time again and I'd suggest he takes a different tack. Min bid? Ebay? Send to John?

I think you should get involved where ads are misleading or unclear. Something like Ann Sexton [multicolored] should be 2nd issue [it wasn't a boot was it?]. Or where no gradings given. Saw an ad other day. one 45 said M-. The rest nothing. You don't know what you're buying in those instances without checking first. Massive reductions which aren't. Bargains at supposedly half price that are cracked!

These are things that bug me but I understand that they won't matter to a lot of people.

I can't look at every single listing on every single post though Rod so people would have to report these things to me and I will ask them to amend their posts.

As not a single Action record is worth more than £75, I don't think it was that unusual to ask why 'sensible offers' were required on an Action label record.

Personally I don't see a problem with comments in the sales section, although I'd not post a negative comment if the price was above the usual asking price because I just think it's rude. People are,for the most part pretty clued in on the price of stuff they want.

What I would like to see is the sales page become a set sale page. In the last few years more and more "offers" have crept in, these are really auctions and I think they should have a section of their own.
