Guest Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 (edited) i never heard or saw any combat wearers at HINCKLEY ALLNIGHTERS and i went frequently as it was just down the road from me ! theres photos and no sign of greens That's why the army wear all that combat gear Toad, so you can't see them. and with your eyes...................... there were probably hundreds there, you just didn't notice them Replying to Soul boys post about the young lad playing decent tunes on originals in the soul room at the maton mere rally However unlikely and unusual to me that sounds it may well have happened on the Saturday night I would not know as I packed and fooked off home on Saturday morning, vowing never to bother my arse with this crap again. No decent Jamaican tunes apart from the usual played out things , No decent Soul apart from the usual played out things , fooking CDs, I'm just fooking bored with it all. This is just me - I'm not saying the scooter scene is shite - if you love it for what it is - then fine - this is my view. I just cant take it any more, its the same music, its the same holiday camps, its the same weekends. everyone will get bored in the end. the organisers should be pushing the scene and the opportunities they have forward IMO they have a captive audience at the moment and instead of just spoon feeding everyone frank wilson on cd at every rally in their Soul Rooms they could be introducing some proper soul djs and getting scooterists who have a taste for popular soul n motown familiar with the more interesting stuff and also getting soul fans coming to rallys. When this happens on the national rally Soul rooms - I will start riding to them again ! Thats my feelings ! Edited October 13, 2010 by mossy

Guest Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 I can't comment for the scooter scene as I'm not a scooterist but I was very pleasantly surprised at the reaction to the tunes I played at Hipshaker on the IOW rally. Probably a bit more left field than my usual set and it all seemed to go down spiffingly well. Really enjoyed it with plenty of people digging rare and classic sounds in equal measure. This may have more to do with the fact that it was the IOW weekend but I've found that over the 12 years I've been back on the soul scene (and the 9 years I've been running Boogaloosoul) I've noticed loads of scooter guys and girls have definitley maturing in the musical tastes from being just oldies vultures to apprecialting more eclectic sounds. very likely in London mate, but I can assure you they are still buying cds with scooters and targets on the front from asda up here !

Seen the replies.....Mossy has got the hump.Don't think anythings going to change unless a group of like minded individuals got together and put on an event. As i said before I had the same problem with the type of music I wanted to hear so put my money where my mouth is and I have found there was a lot of other people felt the same...packed night..I wasn't really bothered about deejaying but got so pissed off with bedroom deejays playing schizophrenic sets I thought I could do it better.....I'm not alone.Still can't find a venue I really like that plays northern on the scooter rallies not even on the Isle Of Wight,Camber at the summer was okay but the winter one was bad.Anyone got any reports of northern soul on other rallies as I'm planning some trips up north next year. BTW is Elbie Parker rare.......seems theres one on ebay every week!! Theres a new dj on the rallies see pic.... Edited October 13, 2010 by wiggyflat

I just wish they would get some good DJs on the Scooter Rally s as far as elbie parker - i would say its a hard record to get in good condition all the copy's I have been offered in the past have suffered with styrene burn / hiss so its always been a tricky one for me 500 quid for a decent one ? but I have never been offered a real clean one ! have there been a few on e bay ?
