The words patronizing c---ts springs to mind...BUT , no doubt a throng of defenders will spring forth to support it...

what if they do Paul, does everyone have to agree with you. have you seen it? It is all you seem to do on here lately, slag a play or film off and woe behold anyone who doesn't agree with you!

Personally I don't have an opinion about this as I haven't seen it, doubt I ever will and really couldn't care less. It won't have any effect on what I do.

I remember Mrs Woods at the casino ticket office saying to the lad in front of me "Yes it has gone up 20p, BLAME MAGGIE THATCHER !"ph34r.gif

Strange "Cashing in" is not on the soundtrack.......

It doesn't bother me a small London based drama school has done this. I just don't understand why everything has to be set in the seventies all the time.

Be interesting to see a drama about the contemporary scene for once.

There will always be bad art.

You want censorship . . . . ?

Move on.

if someone described the soul scene to you Matt would you want to go and watch it ? a scene made up of mostly middle aged people dancing in run down venues to 50 year old records ... sounds rivetting :wicked:

i think the closest we got was Trevor Nelson following Keb Darge around a venue in that documentary, i've never seen anyone look so nervous and confused. laugh.gif

Just how all fairy stories start ain't it Paul?

Think most site members are sick & tired of all this mundane shite on here.

Be nice if just for once you started something positive for a change.

The words "pot and kettle" spring to mind with regards to the original comment. and with reagrd to the latter, i seriously doubt it.

I just clicked on the photos and it looks like a scene from High School Musical :wicked:

I wonder if they have Maggie singing in the House of Commons laugh.gif

And before anyone says anything - no I haven't seen it but looking at those photographs I defy anyone to say they didn't cringe - even just a little bit!

dont normally judge before watching/listening but it does look a bit shit BUT none of us OWN northern...people can do what they want...maybe its someone jumpin on the possible future bandwagon maybe its a theatre luvvie who also loves soul..i dunno ,dont really care either to be honest...lifes too short and when this and all the other films, plays and books are done with (cos none of them will be classics) im sure there will still be djs playing great american (and british)soul music for us to dance to:D and thats all that matters...:wicked:

I simply rolled my eyes/shrugged me shoulders and came back to soul source. Probably last time I'll see the page.

See you tonight Joan for some of the proper stuff :wicked:

Exactly the same as me.

Has no relevance as far as I'm concerned.

Lighten up guys I doubt it has much relevance for a lot of us. Doesn't mean you can't have a laugh at it though?

Lets face it, if everything on here had to be relevant to everybody we would be in trouble laugh.gif

Like Chalky says see you in a few hours for the proper stuff :wicked:

To tell the truth, if a film like the above described was made by Mike Leigh it would be brilliant, and real !

I would definately go and see it as opposed to all of these period pieces that are appearing.

So what has it got to do with Soul music .....................anything ?

So some actors have another 70s themed play with a Soul reference.

I will never know if that play is entertaining or not because I will not go out and see it, ( I won't go out to the Theatre cause Theatre bores me)

But others do go, and enjoy this sort of shit.

These intelligent and multi headed individuals who can take in this type of art on all levels will be much better placed to offer their opinion on this play once

they have seen it.

Otherwise this is not even worth discussing on "all about soul"

Peace !

Why are people slagging this play off ??,( No I have not seen it )

For that it was it is !!!

One minute people are on here saying they want to attract younger people on to the Northern / Modern soul scene,

"They will keep the faith in the future" quotes spring to mind,

The minute anything slightly on the commercial side of things comes along and it's "Jumping on the bandwagon"

"The Bandwagon" has been going on for nearly 50 years now so it's not that underground anymore,

I went to see "Once upon a time in Wigan",,Took my wife who is 12 years younger she thought it was great and made her more aware of NS

It was a laugh remembering how I was at 16 yrs old

How many people on this site got into Northern Soul by watching "This England" or by buying "The Snake" or dancing to "Footsee" after seeing it on Top Of The Pops

The "Soulboy" film may be shite?? I don't know,I have not seen it,If by watching this movie(however far from the truth it maybe ) Makes someone out there get his dancing shoes on is that wrong ??

The same for this play,Imagine seeing it and hearing some of the tunes mentioned,For the first time and tapping your feet to the beat, In the words of Lonnie Liston Smith "Expand Your Mind"

Keep On Keeping On

Posted (edited)

I have not seen "Once upon a time in Wigan" or "Soulboy" or this new play either.

I will continue to try and out manoeuvre all this arty farty Theatre rubbish and just keep on collecting old soul 45s until I am old and grey ! laugh.gif

peace !
