Have you ever wondered what the story is behind the tune when a ladies name is mentioned ?

Who was Estelle Parker?

And can you think of any other tunes where a specific persons name is mentioned ?

Vel vets with Loius Presean - Estelle Parker

A woman's name ? an intriguing question young Carms .......

The mention of a man's name in records is commonplace , i.e. Barnabus Collins in Kenya Collins' " Love Bandit " , but you have now set these old grey cells a poser .

I will report back later if I can come up with one , or hopefully , several .

Were'nt they all doing it in the mid 60s?

Like Sam & Dave, Wilson Picket, for examples.

But, due to fading memory, can't name specific tunes. I'll leave that to those with better memory retaining abilities than me.

No, BC was a fictional vampire (is there any other kind?) in a 70s US TV soap called "Dark Shadows". There are several records that mention him, quite a lot of them in reggae...

He's about to be portrayed on screen by Johnny Depp in a new Tim Burton movie adaptation of the series.

Lots of Motown examples, obvious ones being Nathan Jones and Jimmy Mack, the famous absconders!

edit - late realisation you may be identifying more subtle mentions than titled references, and both male of course. I shouldn't go on here before lunchtime. I'll get my coat, Goodnight Irene!

Barnabus Collins was a character - a vampire - played by actor Jonathan Frid the US 1960's ( 1966 - 1971 ) TV series " Dark Shadows " , which was billed as the first supernatural soap opera .

Keanya Collins' version was a " gimmick " record , made to cash in on the success of the show , but sadly failed to makie an impact .

Whoever gets to sing "There Was A Time" puts their own name in it (Gene Chandler / James Brown)

We should be glad "Englebert Humperdink" never sang that song.

Cheers

Yes I did Carms - when i first got this record i was Googling "Estelle Parker" for hours; closest i came was actresses, singers and dancers. Nothing conclusive though, it could've been his bext door neighbour :-)

elmore james.....chairmen of the board

junior parker...on al green's take me to the river

hickory holler.......o.c.smith

Hickory Holler (actually Hickory Hollow) is a fictitious place name, not a person's name, Jim.

The song is called "The Son Of Hickory Holler's Tramp" i.e. it's about the son of the tramp of a town called Hickory Holler//Hollow, not the son of a tramp owned by someone called Hickory Holler.

Pardon the pedantry...

I've asked this question before . Who is Jimmy in ''Come Back Baby - The Stoppers . ???

My heart still crys out for you

My friends are saying Jimmy what are you going to do

Presumably 'Jimmy' is the lead singer of the Stoppers. In Roddie Joy's (far superior) version on Red Bird, she sings 'My Friends are saying 'Roddie, what are you going to do?'"
