The mention of a man's name in records is commonplace , i.e. Barnabus Collins in Kenya Collins' " Love Bandit " , but you have now set these old grey cells a poser . I will report back later if I can come up with one , or hopefully , several . Malc Edited August 27, 2010 by Malc Burton

And can you think of any other tunes where a specific persons name is mentioned ? Vel vets with Loius Presean - Estelle Parker Were'nt they all doing it in the mid 60s? Like Sam & Dave, Wilson Picket, for examples. But, due to fading memory, can't name specific tunes. I'll leave that to those with better memory retaining abilities than me.

Guest TONY ROUNCE Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 (edited) Wasn't Barnabus Collins Kenya's husband?? No, BC was a fictional vampire (is there any other kind?) in a 70s US TV soap called "Dark Shadows". There are several records that mention him, quite a lot of them in reggae... He's about to be portrayed on screen by Johnny Depp in a new Tim Burton movie adaptation of the series. Edited August 27, 2010 by TONY ROUNCE
Dean Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 (edited) Lots of Motown examples, obvious ones being Nathan Jones and Jimmy Mack, the famous absconders! edit - late realisation you may be identifying more subtle mentions than titled references, and both male of course. I shouldn't go on here before lunchtime. I'll get my coat, Goodnight Irene! Edited August 27, 2010 by Dean

Guest Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 (edited) Wasn't Barnabus Collins Keanya's husband?? Barnabus Collins was a character - a vampire - played by actor Jonathan Frid the US 1960's ( 1966 - 1971 ) TV series " Dark Shadows " , which was billed as the first supernatural soap opera . Keanya Collins' version was a " gimmick " record , made to cash in on the success of the show , but sadly failed to makie an impact . Malc Edited August 27, 2010 by Malc Burton

My heart still crys out for you My friends are saying Jimmy what are you going to do Presumably 'Jimmy' is the lead singer of the Stoppers. In Roddie Joy's (far superior) version on Red Bird, she sings 'My Friends are saying 'Roddie, what are you going to do?'"
