Think you're about spot on there, Chalky.. Home made, bespoke, recording - cut onto carver(s).. Also a vocal to Elijah Rockin' With Soul that sounds as though Larry was simply ad libbing, plus another track of which the title escapes me at the mo - but have them all on cd here, somewhere..

I had a letter/e-mail from Dave telling me the full story but it's got lost over time. Got all the tracks not long after Dave did them. The other Larry Hammond is Whenever I'm Without You? Search Larry in refosoul as I put it there. The other is a female take of the Dottie and Mille track or one of the femme Topper recordings. Dave Rivers if he reads this will tell you more.
Cheltsoulnights Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 You are kidding Grant, right? You mean that home made recording? Yep sounds great doesn't it Pete. If memory serves me right. As the best cut was being recorded a telephone rang, so Larry added the line "somewhere a telephone is ringing" Never seen a boot, but most people just download it and cut a carver for dj/demonstration use

funkyfeet Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Been around for a long time, when I got my copy it was still covered up as Ronnie McNeir.
Julianb Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 the telephone is in the Whenever I'm without you track or whatever it is called. Thanks for the info Chalky. I thought my ears were deceiving me as I couldn't hear the telephone on my copy of sad Sad. Cheers Julian
Chalky Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Been around for a long time, when I got my copy it was still covered up as Ronnie McNeir. Dunno why it was covered as it was known from the off virtually who it was. As I mentioned earlier it would be around about ten years ago, maybe bit longer when Dave did it. I remember playing it from a cd at an early Prestatyn. When you say your copy is that cd, mp3, vinyl? Is it a boot? Was never released was it not?
Soulchoons Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 anynoe know the full title of this rare track played at the wellingborough alldayer yesterday called ? by larry hammon? vocal to sidras theme played i think by dj sean chapman any help really appreciated thanks in advance Hi there, It was me Danny Clegg who played Larry Hammond, Sad Sad Way at wellingborough alldayer at around 3.30pm and it went down a storm, i bought my copy about two and half years ago as a one sided acetate from a respected record dealer. i paid good money for it and have never seen another copy, anymore information to this record would be a great help. many thanks Danny Clegg K.T.F
Anoraks Corner Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 i bought my copy about two and half years ago as a one sided acetate from a respected record dealer. i paid good money for it and have never seen another copy, anymore information to this record would be a great help. There's more info about the various tracks Dave Burton recorded on Larry Hammond on Soul-Source within the following thread: They are not vintage at-the-time recordings...recorded less than 10 years ago...Larry is basically singing over instrumentals. Larry is a Jazz drummer still performing gigs in and around Hong Kong...just tap his name into Google and you'll find pictures of him.
Chalky Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Not sure what other in formation you want Danny, that you have a genuine 60's Virtue acetate? Well I know you could buy Virtue blanks so maybe that is what was used to cut the Larry Hammond. It is pretty easy to print a Virtue or any other label for that matter. But the track as a few of us have said was recorded ten years or thereabouts ago. I did have the full story in an e-mail from Dave Burton but it got lost with PC crashes etc. Read the other topics, there is a few if memory serves me correctly.
Soul-slider Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 (edited) Soon as I played the clip Grant put up I knew it was a 'new' record, the voice and just everything about it. It just smacks of 'recorded for the Northern Soul market'!! Edit: still like it though! Edited August 23, 2010 by Soul-Slider
