for a very average mid tempo record as well......oh well...

I think most people buy it for the much better, imho, "VOO DOO MAN" side

But it doesn't warrant the price as far as I'm concerned, there are just too many around and who knows how many more the seller has..

About £200 should be the price all things be equal.

Wouldn't class this as an average rekkid anyday of the week for the last forty years.IMHO this represents the beauty of rare NS in one piece of black wax with a nice plain label.Relentless drum/bass beat throughout with pleading lead vocals backed with harmony and an oh so soulful fadeout....'can't you tell that i really love you baby....' B side'sgood as well!!

It's all down to pesonal taste I suppose but I gotta agree with you. A class track , hit me first time I heard it (on a cassette) sometime in the later half of the 70's.and one of the few records I've never tired of hearing to this day. Ok, maybe overplayed to some but I'll listen to stuff of that quality any morning, noon or night. The flip "Voodoo Man" doesn't do much for me though.

Come on mate the Four Tracks is far more uptempo than Romance Watson and Roy Hamilton. Propper floaty northern soul in my opinion. Plus the other two are shite

Looking at Popsike, I'd say this seller's luck "FOUND IN A OLD CLOSED UP DETROIT MICHIGAN RECORD STORE." has earned him around $20,000 so far. Not bad. Serves a nice supply and demand case study also.

I have wanted this 45 since the early 1990s when Mark Bicknell was playing it and putting it on tapes for me.

But I suspected this guy on e bay had found the whole production run and I kept a close eye on him.

It has turned out that he had obviously in fact found the whole pressing run in box in a garage somewhere.

The four tracks..............The royal esquires..............clara hardy....................................the list goes on.

I will bet money we are having this discussion soon about " Sleepless nights"

as there are plenty of mint copys of that going around at the moment

and as this scene gets older rare records will come back on the market

this is for fun............. not for investment !!!!

four tracks !!! 100 quid now TOPS !

Interesting, when we said a year or two back that the guy had found a whole pile of them and was drip feeding them out, other people were going "no it's only a handful"......

"get em before they're gone" etc etc.

A £70 record by the time that LYING CON-MAN has finished selling his "last couple of copies".........

If you paid £500 for it that's what it's worth, if you ain't got a copy it's worth a £100, yes the debate goes on, we all know rarity and value aint the same thing and never will be.

The proper thing would be to say "Selling number 153 of 500", but how many eBay sellers would be that honest?

Never liked Like My Love For You so have always ignored this one

Have to agree Voo Doo Man is the side

Uncertain Detroit connections? - label obviously located in Toledo, Ohio

Archer stamped

Tracks supposedly recorded at Magic City (ref: way back in Rod Dearlove's A Collector's Guide To Detroit) or even Golden World studios - but what is the evidence behind these claims - anyone know please?

Cheers

exactly what I was thinking you just can't compare romance watson to this record. One is a good soul record the other isn't.

Roy Hamilton P.I.O shite? Tsk..

Think how many other good records you could buy for 500 quid. Four Tracks would be last on the list.

Romance Watson is uber soulful btw.

The distance between Toledo & Detroit is about 60 Miles. I've got all the master tapes from the rather obscure "Hunza" record label from Toledo, all using United Sound, GM and other facilities in Detroit, ironically one of the "Hunza" Master Tapes is "Unique Blend - Yes I'm In love", work that one out!!. The idea of the "Four Tracks" being recorded, mastered & even pressed in Detroit, for a Toledo based label is very, very plausible.
