Creative Dancing?

Soul dancing has influences from many sources : various dance styles, martial arts and gymnasticswhich had greater or lesser influences at various times and different venues. Soul dancing in turn informed many later dance styles. In the glory days the dancing evolved immensely over the years. I'm interested in people's views as to what extent is soul dancing still capable of evolving?

So two questions:

To what extent is it open to dancers to be creative in their dancing without losing the distinct northern style?

Is it acceptable to introduce new moves or should dancers stick to what has been done before in the name of authenticity of the scene?
