But long before Hitsville's meteoric rise in the early sixties, the Motor City was already a hotbed of jazz, jump blues, and gritty R&B. Blue collar Detroit was one hard working city with the music to match. As Martha Reeves once said in the 60s, 'Detroit is full of talent'. And throughout that decade, independent producers and musicians did their level best to mirror Motown's success turning out some of the greatest and most revered soul sides. Yet although the black music scenes of Chicago,Philadelphia, New Orleans and beyond have been well documented the Motor City's minnows have been sorely overlooked. To correct this oversight,...
