Just out of interest what types of music do members of your family listen to.

I'm lucky as my wife Dawn loves the same music as me , 60s soul & motown.

My Mum & Dad (God bless) allways listened to Jack Jones and Andy Williams Lps.

My brother is into heavy rock but his favourite record of all time is Theres a ghost in my house by R Dean Taylor.

My sister was mad about Wham but I dont know what she listens to now.

My 20 year old lad Tom is into modern R&B but secretly loves northern soul as I have caught him listening and dancing to it but he is just a little embarresed by his age to be assosiated with going out to a soul night.

Any movers or shakers in your family?

And while I remember (just about) my Uncle Mick was a genuine first generation Mod with a Lambretta scooter with a million mirrors. I can still picture it now outside my aunties house in Upper Gornal in the mid /late 60s. I know he ended up in jail for the night because someone knicked something off it and he ended uo going up Dudley and knicked something similar off another scooter and ended up getting caught.

I've been working on my neice slowly... we went to spain a couple of years ago and after a week she was singing along to Jerry Williams if I ask you... and when I went round there a couple of weeks ago she wanted to show me a CD she bought... Northern Soul shes also asked me to put be young be foolish (persil ad) on to CD...(shes 11)

Mum was always a big Elvis fan, me hubby is into the northern same as me, our 11 year old is a big fan of The belles and their track "don't pretend" She was thrilled to bits when make my vinyl was able to get a signed copy of the lyrics for her at the last weekender at Cleethorpes (6t's) and this now holds pride of place on her bedroom wall. She is also into her everyday chart groove stuff and Now 61 is almost on constantly in her bedroom.... But she is diverse in her musical tastes, and is into old sixties grooves such as Dusty and Nancy sinatra as well as pet Clarke. Must say though she has good tastes and often puts on "a good Set"

Mum...Elvis,billy fury

Dad....Buddy holly,bob seager

Father in law...Temptations,earth wind and fire,art and garfunkle

Ma in law.....too busy washing up and general house work

Wife.....Soul and paul weller

Son.....Alien ant farm and all the other american college rock

Daughter...Dance music(whatever that means)

Sister....soul and any old pap on the radio

Brother...Dido and other related pap

sadly he interupted these RnB greats with Jim Reeves and Perry Como, but there is no doubt about the influence it had on me, he's 83 this year and still plays them!

My Eldest Daughter (13) is Abba and The nolans mad as is most of her friends (weird) however she loves Music across the board

her Fav Soul Track at the mo Is ......... Nicolas Bearde , Summer Sunday

My Youngest (8) Loves the four tracks Like my love for you

Wife - (hates anything taking the weekly shopping money ie my records) however seen her secretly tapping feet etc to Tower of strength Gloria lynn in the past.

My Father (79) Anything motown Especially Edwin Starr & Isleys

Brought up by parents on an unhealthy diet of folk, folk-rock, classical, lots of singer-songwriters, Suzanne Vega, James Taylor, etc They still listen to the same sort of stuff with a few new additions in the same mould. My dad likes reggae as well... they always had a few 60s/Motown things and tend to like the bits of Northern that I've played them but don't show a great deal of interest in it.

No brothers, sisters, etc... Soon going to be flat-sharing with one of my mates, who likes bits of everything musically, has gone along to a couple of soul nights with me and asked for CD recommendations afterwards, likes soul but not fanatically. Whether she gets to like it more or can't stand it after a few months living with me remains to be seen

Spent a lot of time at my grans in my youth,my uncle still lived at home and was a serious mowtown and soul fan so i had a great start. :thumbsup:Oh yeah and they lived in leigh 15 mins frm wigan.

Dad - Country, folk...well that's if you class the Fivepenny piece as folk

7 yr old daughter - loves Busted and Mc Fly but also loves any soul with catchy bits like Suddenly-Tony Drake (she likes the oo ah ah bit), Royal Esquires, and the Jackson Sisters

Him indoors - Rare soul mainly but assorted other stuff including doo wop, strange european sixties music , folk and even the dreaded jazz Some of his albums scare me to be honest....and that's before I've listened to em, just looking at the covers

dad ~ slim whitman and likes both kinds of music country... and western

mum ~ always remember her singing to..freda payne -band of gold but sadly glen campbell

oldest bro ~ went to wigan introduced me to soul at the tender age of 9

youngest bro ~ big soulie til a few years ago...sold up..and now just gets cd's off me

eldest son ~ loves his soul and can be seen berating r&b at sum alldayers ( dunno where he gets that from )

youngest son ~ comes running evrytime he hears ..dee clarke - thats my girl

the missus has always been a rock fan but claims she only likes some of the stuff i play because it 60,s and not soul (fair point at times) the kids, ive caught them singing,picture me gone, stepping out of the picture, mr creator, 1000years and very strangely my eldest daughter singing "these memories". i must add that i dont claim my kids have great taste in music its just if they want a lift in my car they listen to my music!! ,

Nearly 7 year old daughter, Green Day, Lucy silvers, James Blunt, Scissor sisters,(knows the words to most of the records in the charts), she also has a Specials album that she plays a lot! However, caught her dancing round her bedroom to one of my (old)tapes a few weeks ago, fav one at the moment is the tramps, hold back the night.... When she was 4 she stood up in nursery and sang the whole of I surrender, Eddie Holman to a bemused class!

We listen to the radio (as I try not to brainwash her) but she still knows the difference between pop, soul and funk...... Northern is my first love, but all music is great(apart from that def metal stuff, oh and Jungle!), she is teaching me whats hot and whats not. She holds her own, even tho she is bombarded with Northern from both of her parents, not afraid to tell us what she thinks is rubbish too! Alan is gutted she makes him listen to Essex FM in the car and then sings at the top of her voice to him!!!

As for my parents, well..... My dad probably has more up to date taste than me! He bought an Ipod last week so he can download all the latest stuff! (He thinks he is soooo cool!) Although he brought me up on a musical diet of the Beatles and country and western..

My Mum, ELO, Alice Cooper, Rod Stewart, mixed with a bit of Elvis. Need I say more.

And as for my brother, I really tried to educate him by taking him to Keele in the late 80's. He loved it, still talks about favourite record of the night, Doug Banks, Kept on Dancing! But alas, he listens to Jungle...... and nothing else. Bang bang bang.... yuk! Families eh?
