Guest DeeJay Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 I have seen an empty shop in between Ann Summers and Mc Donalds, it has an old carpet on the floor with meat pies and Locazade stains a plenty, on a short lease. Just out of interest anyone remember if the casino had a phone in the record bar or am I going mad. A public phone box ? Yes it did I, used to revel in calling my mates up that hadn't made it. Just to piss em off (happy daze). I would then hold the phone up, so they hear whats being played. DJ

Suinoz Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 financial backer wanted for northern soul bar in central or west london(oxford st area), with the ever groing demand for northern etc from tourists etc and the increasing allnighters happening in london it would be great to have a permanant venue to visit during regular and after allnighter hours, therefore im looking for someone to back me financially i.e lease and interior refurb(6ts soul style) i have been in the trade for 22years on and off and know my stuff also my soul,i am a personal license holder also certified in cellar managment and dps supervisor certified, look forward to hearing from any interested parties, sincerly ali derees mobile 07909552109 If by your handle you live in Norwich then why not look at setting up something closer to home, say one of the seaside towns ( but not Skeggy as they already have the Tamla bar ). Rents etc. are gonna be a fraction of London prices and you will at least get the holidaymakers. Hopefully you can make enough money during the Summer months to spend your winters in sunnier climates. Sounds like you already have the credentials to get it up and running. If you ever visit Nottingham i suggest you go and have a look at the Soulville Steak House. Great place, brilliant food and plenty of memorabilia to look at and a FREE jukebox crammed with Motown and Northern, PLUS it's alway's packed out. Good luck anywway mate. Stay soulful. ATB Tony. OZ. ( ex Peterborough )

( ex Peterborough ) I can see it now - Northern Soul hits --- CROMER!!! --- at least Jon(Vespa69) will be pleased! Just having a laugh Tony, coming from Norwich myself and knowing the area well, but those tea stalls on the Norfolk coast are struggling let alone a Soul Bar. ATB Mark C
Dylan Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 nottingham has soulville steakhouse a themed restuarant and bar. never been in myself as I can only imagine its vastly remnoved from what i'd want out of a soul venue. But that is probably the only type of venture that woudld work in the mainstream in a city centre.

ATB Mark C just spent 2 weeks in norfolk and I was very impressed. Plenty of momney floating about as well much different to what I expected as i've never been before. pubs and eating out all to a high standard. Didn't see to much eveidence of places struggling to be honest. Norwich was also impressive.
Guest oldsoulgit Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 There was a "Motown Soul Bar" in Catford. Don't think it's still there. Went to a boozer on Ady Luptons stag do in Bangor that had a Northern Soul theme to it. I think the boozer in Bangor was called the Waterloo, I went there in the 80s once.
Guest Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 ello mate west end dint work out so now got booza in herts potters bar see what appens we can only but try! great nite at the 100 frank great to see ya and the lads keep ya posted on me new booza mate going there monday ava good weekend mate ali Nice idea , cannot finance it myself but like the idea of a soul bar . I believe Ali from Norwich is running a bar in London (not central ) and he was promoting the soul theme where possible. Yoou could tap into the scooter scene / Mods and so on . Getting some youth into work there would help especially if they are interested in the theme subject matter too. It all helps to promote it . Good luck and i hope you find some backers who can afford to take a gamble. cheers Frank (Norwich Backstreet ) p.s. who are you ? "Norwichbloke":hatsoff2:
Guest Dave Turner Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 (edited) Seems to me very odd that in a country that is supposed to have more soul fans per head of population than anywhere else in the world there isn't (as far as I know) a classic and deep soul bar. Forget the Northern and dancing bit, that''s all over the place. Trouble (in a way) with this country is it's Northern and dance dominated and folks don't get the chance to hear out anything but. If I had the money I'd take a leaf out of the Jap's book and open up a soul coffee bar (with a drinks license) and bar food. Somewhere small in a central London location where one could eat, drink and chat whilst hearing just great soul music that doesn't neccessarily need to have a dance beat. Atmospherically decked out with vintage posters and artist promo photos. A place that if you're a soul fan you'd just have to visit (if even just the once). Summat along the lines of but not the same as -------- https://sweetebonyeye...category-4.html With playlists similar to ------- https://sweetebonyeye...com/page-1.html That'll do fer me, Whether or not it would be a viable business in such a high price area is another matter.
