1) Adam Buchanan.... Cos it was him at Leicester Nottingham Oddfellows that really got me into Modern Soul in 83...Think he was still a teenger D.J. Remember before he played 'You Got Me Hung Me' by King Tutt he said "Phil,you've never heard anything like this!" I hadn't it just blew me away...

2) Brian Rae.......for giving me lifts everywhere in his Vauxhall Cavilier and never turning down a record request from me.....Oh and giving me loads of fags....

3) Richard Searling......For trying to keep Wigan Soulful.....and being pleasant and friendly.......Same for the two above

Richard Searling,cause without him this scene would have been missing some cracking classics tunes that he discovered.And also his enthusiasm for the Scene as well.

Dave Evison,a really nice guy who always tried to find time to speak everybody he could.

And also not up his own arse,like some past DJs i could mention.

And last but not least Rob Smith,a perfect gentleman, and one DJ no matter where the venue is or how poor the sound system is,you can always hear every word he says on the mic.

No disrespect intended to any other DJs not mentioned,but i think Webby means this is more a personal opinion of DJs we all know,and there are a lot out there i do not know.

Was DJing at Whitchurch Civic, with Rosko on as the 'star' attraction.

He started playing his set but to no response as the Whitchurch crowd had been 'brought up' on much better stuff. Ended up feeding him my records to play so he could have a dancefloor moving.

Liked the guy - he was seemingly genuinely interested in the records I was giving him about which he had no previous knowledge (even though, even then, they were pretty much run-of-the-mill NS).

Rosko's real name: Michael Pasternak. And he did have a Saturday lunchtime Radio Show in the 70s. It was the time when 'jingles' were all the rage and he had some top jingles!

He brought along a couple of mini-skirted dancers with him to Whitchurch who gyrated a bit on the stage - Pole dancing comes to Whitchurch 70s style

Richard Searling - His spots during the later Wigan years 79-81 were the best ever in my time on the scene (75 onwards) . Almost all of what he was playing then are regarded as classics now , hardly a duff spin from him in that period at all .

Soul Sam - Always his own man , has been responsible for breaking more sounds than most of the others put together .

I will leave it at that , to name a third would be unfair on so many others who have given me untold pleasure over the years

Without wishing to be disrepectful (yeah, you're right, I am going to be....) only dj's from about 20+ years ago (Butch and Searling excluded, really count.

Why because? they knew which way was up, they knew what a soul record sounded like and they knew you didn't have to play pop (Poke's Joan Moody cover up aside).

There were many other exceptional dj's over the years, but they were my favourites. Can't say as I have heard a 'northern' dj in 20 years that I would have paid in washers.

Obviously a personal point of view, and one that I don't expect everyone to agree with.
