Was having a bit of fun Kev, you know humor???

Thought all the folks mentioned (including you) would have seen it the same way.

Anyway if you have got a problem with my moderating go through the correct channels & report it rather than commenting on it on the thread. You have been told

before.

Everytime I read anything from you, I get indigestion.

Rennie's anyone?

Not the first to do this kind of thing and not the last i guess... Its always gone on....

It must look so foolish to people looking on....

So Kev.... Soul over easy is the devil now i take it

Yes it looks like plenty more fun and games, lets just hope they aint all on here... Its a forum for fun and the games can get a little boring...

Too right!! Biggest culprit of the lot was Wigan Casino.

I can't comment on The Torch, Twisted Wheel, etc, but Wigan Casino was certainly the death knell for countless local Youth venues in the area.

All-nighter every Saturday Night and an Oldies All-nighter every 1st Friday of the month. Was that enough, oh no. Monday, Wednesday and Friday night early sessions aswell. Blew the local Youth Club culture out the water and did they care? Well, to be honest, they probably didn't even know. It was the "Best Disco In The World" afterall, so why on earth should they think about the local Youth Clubs?

Just a thought though, if there ain't a major influx of young 'uns onto this scene of ours in the next 5 or 10 years, this argument won't exist anyway. Get them Youth Clubs back up and running

P.S. I did enjoy my time at Wigan Casino by the way wink.gif

Lifeline has 5 per year, 6 if we could ever sort the christmas/new year date out. Just how many would you like us to cut down to?

New Century runs the month we don't promoting a three room venue, more oldies orientated in the large room with two side rooms catering for upcoming, modern, R&B and Steve Cato's session.

We work together along with Mace and believe it or not at times other promoters including Kev Roberts to try and avoid clashes. Along with Chris at New Century, we are always the last Saturday in the month and our dates are up over a year in advance in the all-nighter planner, these dates have been used since our beginnings.

I'm not sure we can really do any more to help than we already do? If there are any suggestions, we will gladly listen.

Favourite venues are subjective to the customer.

I'd be very upset if Lifeline shut it's doors. It is truly my absolute favourite. Not only for the blinding music but also, equally, for the venue, dance floor and attendees. A unique threesome I've yet to experience anywhere else.

Radlcliffe, for me, does come a very close second/third place indeed but it still lacks the camaraderie I experience from Lifeline. Obviously that's because of the multi-room format. Not knocking it at all, just my observation.

Mace's Bidds nighter is another fantastic night musically and again, one room. I think I prefer one room as it keeps everyone together. No feathering out at certain times and I feel gives each DJ a respected set. For example, everyone leaving one room to hear another DJ in another room because he doesn't play out much anywhere else. If you know what I mean

Just got off the phone with the crew who we usually travel with, we represent 10 people who are regular allnighter goers from South Yorkshire we car share and travel to most of the allnighters within the UK.

On one of our last outings we became aware that children where being allowed into the nighter.

As none of us feel comfortable with this we want to know what allnighters are children friendly and what allnighters are adult only i.e. 18's and above.

Never really thought about it at Lifeline as I don't think we have had any young kids. Karen's daughter Lottie goes but she's more grown up than most of you  Never had a problem with her either and I wouldn't class her as a child as such. Dunno what Mick or Andy's take on it is but I will ask the question. If they read this they might give their views.

...Soz I missed your question Simon, I haven't been on here for a while as it got to the usual boring going round in circles stuff...

probably why no one else has answered...

I've always thought that young adults should be encouraged as long as they want to be there and not because the parents can't get a babysitter.

Lottie has also been to Rugby and didn't look at all out of place.

When we had alldays there did seem to be more younger people but I think at all-niters, I would be a little concerned at the very young being there all night.

One of our all-niters clashed with my daughters 13th birthday, she was desperate to come along but she sat at the door with me and left by 11pm.

I know I wouldn't be comfortable taking her along all night at her age but then every parent does what they think is right.

IMHO THE BEST ANSWER TO THE SOUL SCENE PROBLEM EVER POSTED ON THIS SITE.

SAVED ME HAVING TO TYPE THE SAME.

this is a familiar thread.....its not the 70's....when you accepted who the dj's were and who the promotors were because thats how the scene was....its not the 80's...when the scene fragmented in the wake of wigan's demise and whole swathes of people drifted away to adulthood and marriage and the up and coming dj's just about kept things going at smaller, thinly spread venues....its not the 90's,...the renaissence decade when many finally returned to the scene with renewed vigour as punters looking for a good time and long lost memories, and as a result more venues started up to cope with the demand....no....its the new millenium and the last ten years have been about long serving punters who also had the record collections stored away, deciding they wanted to have a go at djing and promoting....and as a result we have a calender now that no-one could have envisaged in the past 3 decades....just too much to go to, in this day and age, being spoilt is an understatement. all and sundry believe their gig is the business....you cant blame them for that, as for heads getting together....sorry,....too far down the line to stop this runaway train.

if the scene's going through a trough, its hardly noticeable...when wigan shut, the end of the world was nigh, because it was the casino...or nothing.venues open and close in the blink of an eye now and they are still increasing...i go goggle-eyed looking at the ss events guide.

are you or i going to tell a person not to want to be a dj or promotor because there are too many of them out there now?. no one has a god given right to even suggest, let alone think it.

the major promotors have moved into the weekender market in an effort to up the ante, bargaining that punters will find it more to their taste, being able to get away at a seaside resort for a reasonable price with a top line-up of djs and being able to pop in and out at their leisure.

if anything could be concieved as a threat to the myriad of soul nights/nighters you would think the weekender would be the tipping point.....but it isnt.....because life still goes on and there are still just as many gigs. square one then....a good many on here....debateing this are the very same people who pronounced...fook it i can do this...i want to be a dj and then ill be a promotor as well! and we're all clashing with each other and annoying the fook out of every one and.... BUGGER ME, THERE'S EVEN MORE PEOPLE WANTING TO HAVE A GO!.

vicious circle or what? and we contributed to it in the first place so, are we all prepared to share the blame for what we started?

exactly how far do you want this debate to go when its already at a dead end?

There have been a couple of suggestions on this thread of a 'get together' for the organisers of various events to thrash things out, as is done on the scooter scene. If I know one thing about the scooter scene, it's that while a few organisers get promoted to death, others who don't fall onto the 'official' list - which is on the whole voted for by the same people who promote these major events - struggle to get any crowds in if they clash. This is despite the 'other' events usually being aimed at a different market to the mainstream. This regularly leads to the smaller events folding, or running at a large loss.

I can see much the same here if the major players got together to thrash out an 'official' list of major soul events. And there is the further complication that if one promoter whith enough clout doesn't like the agreed dates, then they'll bugger off and do their own dates, regardless of whether they clash or not.
