Soulsmith Posted August 3, 2005 Author Posted August 3, 2005 Records that have such an impact, like them or loath them, at least get people talking about the music. I can remember the letters pages in Blues and Soul being extended so the Northern Soul fans could fight over Ladies Choice. Should it or shouldnt it be played. Not the best record, but at the time by far the most talked about. Same with Joey D. Not the best, but it got the dancers dancing, the chin strokers stroking, and the anti white fascists were apoplectic. It was anoraks at dawn, I'll hold your button badge...the pins can be dangerous. link Beats me why anybody should be discussing Ladies Choice.....when they could have been enjoying Seven Day Lover. Joey D? Try playing "Its More Than I Deserve" a few times. That should reset the old taste buds. Col.

Col. link I will try Col, but its torture trying to remove a badly recorded tape from my player at home, containing Patrinell Staten, complete with added voices discussing the round of drinks they are going to buy. I'm defo in the camp for that one.
Mattbolton Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 3 for me Martha Jean Love - Old Time Lover. San Fran TKO's - Make Up Your Mind. If only for that harmony in the intro. Luther Ingram - Baby Don't.... Them's mine for sure....
Corbett80 Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 How long has the Keni Lewis been known for? Thats one of the best things I've heard.....
Garethx Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 I think Kenni Lewis creeps into this list. It may have been around for a bit longer than five years but it's a sound I always associate with Scenesville at the Notre Dame hall: that would date it from late 2000. Have to agree that it's one of the few records mentioned in this thread that's good enough to have been massive at any time on the scene, not just a cult record. I think this comment applies to the Martha Jean Love cover-up too.
Winsford Soul Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 Half way through the decade & I'd be interested to know the best new rare soul discovery 2000-2005. Appreciate it if peoplw could stick in nominations AND sound files. Plan is get to 10 nominations then organise a poll. My favourite is Stormy Winters - Life Saver, but as luck would have it dont have an mp3 to stick up. Can anybody oblige? So I'm going to put up Mill Evans - Aint You Glad, which was I think a new release for Kent 2001 (6Ts anniv single) Col. link Patrenella Staton .. Little Love Affair. Soz no sound file. Maybe older than 5yrs but i only heard it in the last 5yrs.
