Little-stevie Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 It seems that the Six Hills all niter is not on, maybe it can be deleted from all niter calendar, that does say the most up to date list and a place i would look first for all niter details.... My apologies for the mistake.... Was trying to make a constructive post and used a night hoping to fill a venue a 1,500 venue will have an affect on other established nights for sure... This huge promotion dropped into an already overcrowded events list and i am sure there are plenty promotions around that area who have established nights, this must have an affect on them for sure..... But its about all niter enticer i guess and its soul events will suffer that weekend only.. I see that Chalky as started a promoters topic... Could this open up debate and bring heads to the table or is it a waste of time and way too late to change folks... We shall see...
pikeys dog Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 A posse. There used to be 2 cars full of us that travelled around... now due to relationship break ups, illness, people drifting away etc it's more often than not me going on my own. Not a problem when I arrive as I know plenty of people, but a bit of a drag when you can be driving home for a couple of hours on your jacksy.

I really liked the times when we had all ou mates going together and setting off on an all niter trip... Not the same now at all.... Its a big factor for me and others i know... So many events to choose from and a life to lead thrown into the equation, it makes it hard to get all the crowd out to the same event... plus i have mates into all aspects of the scene from RnB to crossover/ 70s.. They splinter off into smaller groups and choose there own music and club nights... We are older now and more selective in what we want to listen to, this too will have an effect on promotions for sure.... The rise of the multi room all niter does help in getting all parties into the same venue, as does the multi- room weekender... These are on the rise, does that mean a one room all niter will struggle?? The weekender calendar is growing all the time, this will have a big impact on other promotions for sure... All promoters will have to take a close look at the all niter calendar in planning events... The rise in European events too is a factor for sure.. There are now many quality events around Europe, all niters and weekenders, this is a popular destination for many from the uk and the uk events aint getting the Euro travellers as before, they have enough going on without having to come to the uk.... I like the option of European weekends, for some soul and a holiday in a nice destination... For this we would save cash and maybe miss out some events here... The Euro events and weekenders are growing all the time, promoters need to take notice..... I am looking to go to more European events and weekenders next year, many others doing the same.... Somethings got to give i guess.. As Rob says, you pays your money and makes your choice...
Guest Phil Armstrong Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 You say there shouldn't be bitch fighting and mud slinging on a public forum and you then go and have a go at an all-nighter in Stoke. I don't see any other all-nighters that night either in the events guide for that night??? Is it because they are not scene regulars and seem fair game? I bet the night is packed whatever happens! Why not have a go at say Shaun Gibbons who after years in the wilderness marches back onto the scene and clashes at least twice this year with a venue you are involved with, no more than an hour away from each other. Or Burnley which stopped for various reasons including lack of support and commitment yet Barrie brings it back, clashes with a long established venue little more than an hour away and so I hear gets 50 punters in, there are probably no other Friday all nighters so why clash? The next one is now scheduled on an already busy Bank Holiday weekend. Common sense would say have it a week earlier or something just to spread things about. There are plenty of other instances I could mention. If it can't be discussed on a forum which is about everything to do with the scene then where should it be discussed? The promoters don't talk to each other, some do, but most don't so it would never get mentioned otherwise. Who are the DJ's clinging to spots, is that their fault, I don't think so, I would look more towards the promoter for allowing it. There is plenty of scope for all-nighters to suit everyone, but what is needed is some common sense and some respect for fellow promoters and the paying public. Maybe promoters should look at going every other month but something needs to be done or the scene will dwindle and wither away long before its time due to the short sightedness of promoters. Might it be an idea for promoters of all nighters to not have resident dj's and make this be known, they then dont take it as a given they will be on at the next? Phil

Somethings got to give i guess.. As Rob says, you pays your money and makes your choice... I Think what you say is true. I think its not just about too many venues, its also the type of venues that affects numbers. European venues are growing and so are week enders here it seems. Financially for a lot of people that takes a big chunk of your wallet. I did 2 week enders in 3 weeks recently,so that affects what nighters i can travel too over the next couple of months, mainly because of finances, and i am single at the moment, with not too many commitments. By reading another thread on here also,it seems like many people have like me,to work a lot of week ends, which makes it hard to juggle time off for any weekender or all nighter venue. So for the next few weeks if i do go to a soul venue it would have to be fairly local. Stu.
Russ Vickers Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 please come round my place; i beat you up. :lol:I:lol: wish I could mate.......... Russ
Cheapsiderecords Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 If someone wants to dump $700 into my Payapl account every month I will come over for a niter a month. I dont mind paying my own entry, food, records etc. Kevin in Souless Canada
Guest Catfish Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 (edited) Mmm interesting thread.. My motivations: 1: Interest value of music. I don't really know what's expensive or rare, but I think I know the scene well enough to understand what I like, what's quality; which venues are worth me travelling a long way to.. and conversely, which I could hear that music at, 30 miles away or less, virtually any weekend. 2: Is the date convenient. I do other stuff not just soul; often busy Fri night / Sat daytime. 3: Availability of cheap hotel nearby to crash at 4 or 5am. By cheap I mean less than £25. Lucky sometimes on Travelodge website. 4: Will any of my mates be there? I don't enjoy being all alone; did enough of that years ago when I first started & didn't know anyone. And yes I will use the niter as a soul night if I wish; if it costs me £30 petrol for starters for the journey, I can't always afford the £25 for a hotel; so it's a 2am curfew then for me for the drive back. I kind of like being alive and able to look after myself; don't fancy being smashed up on the motorway and ending up in a wheelchair or worse. That's what driving tired or in any other unsuitable state could mean. Sorry to be blunt / boring but that's the bottom line, really, isn't it. On that note I'm off to bed! xx Edited July 23, 2010 by Catfish
Little-stevie Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 I dont care at all dave about all niter listing in calendar, was just a comment and sugestion. Not a request.. Some good points posted.
Guest son of stan Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 (edited) In my case, nothing would entice me. I did a lot of it my younger days (mid forties now). Prefer to socialise in more comfort nowadays, somewhere I can have a laugh and a decent conversation with my friends without having to shout. I don't know if things have changed but my recollection of the majority of allnighter venues is of quite seedy places with plumbing issues. I think people expect higher standards than that before paying money to spend time somewhere, these days.... Edited July 26, 2010 by son of stan

Most niters have running water now and sometimes even hot water for a wash .... The seedy venues are a thing of the past really, still the odd place with plumbing issues only chill out space to chat also.... See you at a niter sooon Stan

Guest Phoenix8049 Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 I suppose when you think of it,its pretty obvious why attendances are falling at nighters. If we had been the this age now, back in the 70s and for some of us not discovered certain Pharmaseutrical medication,i bet all the big clubs back then, would have falling attendances. Its really nothing to do with the scene or the music. Stu.

Guest JIM BARRY Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 nothing would now entice me to a niter, the thought of trying to sleep all day sat or sun after a niter is out of the question,i,e non understanding wife noisy grand kids i also like to do stuff at week ends golf footy lunch out . those things would be impossible, and also i honestly think that a soulnite till 1 am or 2 am is plenty.............not getting any younger either.

Based on the last couple of times I've popped back, if anything, it has gone backwards. The same people I knew in my twenties still go but I wouldn't go myself, let alone take my lovely girlfriend or any of my friends, who aren't from the soul scene but who all love music, for a night out there now....

No matter how plush the venue the toilets, or at least the gents, would still be a mess in no time. most the lazy gits can't be bothered to lift the toilet seat and simply p*ss all over it I wonder if they do the same at home
