Which demo are you after? there's two seperate issues, so I'm presuming that there are two demos.....

...indeed there are. I've got a copy of the second, yellow demo in NM condition for sale but I think we've had this conversation on here before and that Phil wants the earlier, white demo.

Apologies guys. I knew there was two issues, but didn't realise the 9723 demo was white. Is there a black issue of this release as well? Tony, how much is your yellow demo? I presume that is the 1035 release then? I always thought the yellow demo was the original, like Herb Ward and Judy Freeman.

Phil.

They must both be yellow demos then. I could have sworn that the copy Tony Jebb used to play at the Mecca was a white RCA demo. Or maybe the drugs were playing tricks with my eyes...

Yes, my spare is of the 48-1035 release, where it's actually the B side to "You Don't Know What You're Missin" (marked as 'plug side' on the label). I don't think that this was pressed for the Northern scene, as far as I know RCA just decided to reissue the single with the sides flipped.

Same as mine, never seen a white demo of this....

Slightly off-topic perhaps... (and might be a good idea to move this post to "sharp end of vinyl" instead?) but does anyone know the exact catalouge number in 1968 when RCA changed from black issue labels to orange issue labels?

Herb Ward is 9688 and Exciters is 9723 but it appears to have happened long before both of those releases.

I've had a look aound the net for scans and have come up with that it is likely that it changed between 9653 and 9657.

9657 is the first release I have found scans of where the demo and issue both uses the "new style" design.

Check out the listing and scans below, and please fill in any details if you have 9653-9656 in your collection.

...your 'yellow' Dolly Parton demo is actually green, Sebastian. I have a copy of the 45 so I know I'm right about this one! There are also green demos on the older style label - all country releases as far as I can tell. I think RCA must have been trying to differentiate between genres of music briefly for DJs, and I don't know excatly how long the green demo label for country was in operation but I suspect it was not much more than a year, if that long...

I had no idea about that! Green demo it is.

But regardless of label color of the Dolly Parton demo, the new typesetting/logo was in place as opposed to four releases prior to it.

Would be great to see demo/issue scans of 9653-9656.

Here's an example of the earlier style demo in green that i just stole off eBay!

The same seller had one of these - an earlier number than the one shown above and in a colour that I have NEVER seen before on an RCA demo!

I'll dig a bit deeper on the others when I get to Ace on Monday...
