You say Russ played it?
Pete S Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 Dee Dee BARNES - great record. You say Russ played it? link I remember seeing it in one of his Top 10's in Black Echoes, surrounded by the Diana Fosters and Allnight Bands..
Derek Pearson Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 I can see why it was played - fast urgent and messy but it just doesnt sound right for todays dancefloors. It belongs to another era. Maybe thats why its never played out any more....... derek

Get it on a deck somewhere Fluff!! link HERE,HERE, it's a wonderful record-an opportunity for some fancy fast footwork....could this be a reason why some people might think its"not right for..."???????!!!

Guest Stuart T Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 HERE,HERE, it's a wonderful record-an opportunity for some fancy fast footwork....could this be a reason why some people might think its"not right for..."???????!!! link Thats probably right, pop record for the dancefloor, no depth as a quality soul record. Mind you, I kept my copy.
Steve G Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 I remember seeing it in one of his Top 10's in Black Echoes, surrounded by the Diana Fosters and Allnight Bands.. link Yes totally out of character for Russ - still maintain it's very good and it's certainly not pop - hence the shocked icon. A real snappy beater that'll get your pulse going. Might drop it on early doors - agree it might be too fast for todays middle aged spreads, but plenty of handclapping snaps etc...

jocko Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 Ooh good call, how much for this these days, proper Northern Soul, would love to throw myself around a dancefloor to this again. And yes it was a Russ spon, one of his better moments to say the least ! Cheers Jock

And yes it was a Russ spon, one of his better moments to say the least ! Cheers Jock link Ace choon 'tis a little fast but that's no excuse for not giving it an airing now and again When Russ played it seem to remember it was c/u with a bullseye a few other choons he used to play around this record was Pallbearers, Linda Elliot, Posse, and cant remember group but it was that nice clip cloppy one on ABC I love the boy who lives next door I used to enjoy Russ's spots nice easy going entertaining good preparation for the serious stuff to come from Dicky boy Aways loved the weird echo effect on Jay Traynor (Happy Days) DJ
Guest martyn Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 Cracker! One of them tunes that I never new the name of & would probably never have heard again if not for this link
Markw Posted August 1, 2005 Posted August 1, 2005 Had its day. Not soulful. Pinky & Perky. Col. link Who gives an fcuk about it being soulful. We're talking NORTHERN here!!
Guest Posted August 1, 2005 Posted August 1, 2005 Its also on a compilation album of Northern & 60's stuff called "Fizzy Soul Cocktail" Vol 1 on "Cheeky Monkey Records" from a few years back-so someone must have been playing it somewhere?
Soulsmith Posted August 1, 2005 Posted August 1, 2005 Who gives an fcuk about it being soulful. We're talking NORTHERN here!! link Aha, a real live dinosaur. Col.
Markw Posted August 1, 2005 Posted August 1, 2005 Aha, a real live dinosaur. Col. link LOL! Nice one Col! Actually, no. As those who know me would tell you, I've got a progressive attitude - more Modern in main rooms etc, less R&B, fed up with DJs churning over the same tunes over and over, blah blah blah...... Just a few reasons why I can no longer be arsed to drive for hours on end. That's also why I wish more DJs would be enterprising enough to dig into those forgotten oldies like this one and one which actually has a some oomph and power about it. Pleased to see so many punters seem to agree. Promoters and DJs take note. Mid tempo, beat ballads, R&B etc are all very well but it's still called "Northern Soul" and there are dancers out there who aren't yet using zimmer frames! Though they might have to after dancing to Dee Dee!
