Guest Carl Dixon Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 (edited) Watching now.... I once sent a demo to Tom Jones manager. It was a Detroit styled tribute to Edwin Starr that I had originally sent to Edwin for possible inclusion on a new album he was doing. Then sady he passed away, so I sent it to Jones hoping he would be interested. The melody was not so good, but the lyrics have a certain 'Agent Double O Soul' appeal!: Edited July 6, 2010 by Carl Dixon
ImberBoy Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 Excellent TV and what a come back! Tom Jones is a national treasure and as soulful as they come. 'Trouble O Soul', Carl I like it! It would be ace to dance to that at a Nighter and wouldn't it be brilliant if this caught on and got some plays! I've danced worse but this aint bad mate!!
Guest Carl Dixon Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 Thanks Imberboy. The instrumental/alternative vocal takes the track up to about 15mins showcasing 'the musicians' skills. I don't think the hooks are as melodic as I wanted, but I know the 'spy with me a little' seems to be infectious the more it's played. To be honest this is poorly produced years ago now, but after all it's merely a demo. Did you spot I was trying to get a 'John Barry' Bond feel on the opener? It was fun making it, because my neighbour was up to singing for a laugh and had never sung before like this, and really, most of the vocals are a first or second take if that makes sense. There are too many verses - the last but one was an addittion hoping to lure Tom Jones to the song. Yes, he is a national treasure. It was a good interview and the following programme with his live performance too. If I remember, there was a track written for The Flirtations in the late 60's that he heard and wanted! He had a massive hit with it, but it should have been the girls........can't remember the title though....
