I remember Derek Tamala Barnett - he used to cut my hair when he was upstairs in the arcade, almost next door to the orginal Jumbo Records. Also whatever happened to Stew Marvin - he used to del with Rick Vaughn as I recall.

Bloody hell, Derek used to cut my hair as well !!

Stu Marvin the last time I saw him in Leeds was living in Jersey. Rick Vaughan is in Thailand!!!no surprise there then! Yes Julian, Derek used to cut my hair too, he had the shop next door but three I think to Jumbo Records on the balcony, as someone said. He originally had a shop on Great George Street near the Leeds General Infirmary which was also the location of the New Marquee, a short-lived venue opened by Rick and , I think Mick Sheard, another Old Mecca(Spinning Disc) dj after the mecca closed. Heres a pic of Derek at a party my house, the night Dave Godin came up ..

I think you're right about the Exciters at the all-dayer in the tram depot & iirc, also either or both of Johnnie Johnson & Bandwagon and Flaming Ember.

Thats comforting as they can all mix into one if your not carefull !! We were at the front and managed to shake hands with 1 or 2 of the band. As I said we printed our own tickets by copying a real one which was very difficult before scanners and computers.

hi the first alldayer i remember going to was after the mojo shut down in sheffield -an enormous tram shed -queens hall ? leeds abot 1968 dreadful acoustics half mile walk to get to the toilets, concrete floor 2000 turned up but only filled a space round the stageleaving several acres of space! alton towers would have filled what was left!!!!!!

This might help.

Was there, but all I remember is the place being huge (Queens Hall), a temporary dance floor in the middle, and the music echoing like f**k!

The Queens Hall was demolished in 1989 for some strange reason, I think plans to build on it that never came to fruition, as it is now and has been since, a car park.

Definitely ISC event as I've still got the corrected flyer they put out shortly after announcing the line up as they'd originally included a photo of the Temptations in error.

Was the first "nighter I went to with my mate Kevin Kerry from Brighouse maybe aged15/16, think my Mum packed us off with sandwiches!

Definitely Junior Walker & The All Stars, think his son was on drums or keyboard, Edwin Starr (wore his white spangly all in one as on the War & Peace album cover), and the Detroit Emeralds.

Took Karen to Burnley Cats Whiskers Dayer a few years later where Edwin Starr was appearing and was really disappointed when he turns up in jeans and denim waistcoat as I still had the image of him in his white spangly all in one!

Think he'd done Wigan the night before though so fair dos

I recollect doing another nighter at QH a year or 2 later, no live artists, sort of low gym style benches arranged around part of the stone floor to fashion a dance floor and bloody freezing.

Pete

I remember it well, Edwin starrs backing band were "Total Concept Unlimited" who i believe went on to become " Rose Royce". seem to remember the Detroit emeralds went on forever.
