ImberBoy Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Could this be the next big thing? Totally knocked me for a six did this, new to my ears and hit me like a big massive hitty thing! Is this a Modern classic? A cross over sound, a Latin dancer? I don't care but I'd love to do my thing to it! Does any body play it???????? Will I hear this out? Bids? Views on hearing new stuff????
Liljimmycrank Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Always like Bataan stuff, pleasing to see this album released not so long ago. Might hunt one down and give it a spin at our night. RE your question about new stuff being played Simon; whether it's a new release (modern or old sounding), or whether it's a new discovery, i aint really that fussed...........if it's GOOD ENOUGH, then play it. Azza
Mister Fish Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Came out on a 7'' in 2004. Got a feeling it's a Spanish release? Not sure.. Would like one myself!

Played this at Cafe quite a bit, great mover and always has dancefloor buzzing. Quite a lot of latin is popular at mo.
Maark Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 For anyone who's interested, Joe Bataan is playing the Goodwood festival on Saturday 14th August, 2010.

Guest Nick Harrison Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 (edited) Back to labelling and classifying musical sounds, is not always easy or unique as it sounds. Cycles Of You - features a simple 2/3 bar guitar riff, ham organ overtones, single only male soul vocals featuring no backing group vocals throughout. A lightweight brass section break with bongo drums. The arrangement features several quick turn "selected" tempo uplifts, its a soul record, with little latin content, this could be 1976 common sounding soul arrangement.. Compared to Subway by Joe on Fania that is a solid latin influenced with Salsa/Calypso overtones, yet his penned entitled -" Latin Strut" on Mericanna is labelled as Funk , when its an flute fuelled drenched fucking supermarket tune. Strange but lets not dismiss JB and great to see its acceptance on here. Keep on playing among yourselves - nicely chaps. Edited August 1, 2010 by Nick Harrison
Diggin' Dave Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 Love it but then again I love loads of Joe's stuff. Same here... Wouldn't mind if this one got played out more!
