Pete S Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Suspect it's Paul Sadot and not Pete Smith Best of the luck with the play and if it comes to Dublin l'll be sat in the front row! Definitely not me - I'd wish them good luck with it

No one's making any money out of this, it was a part of my life and I have had a lot of fun putting the whole thing together. . i actually started work on it beofre I came across Mick's play and heard about the movie..... Funnily enough some of your views are actuially expressed in the play... things about moving on and the like. .... sorry you won't be there it would have been fun to have a good discussion/argument.....
Guest lasttraintowigan Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 Thanks for your comments. This a self financed not for profit venture with a bunch of young people , some of whom are about to go off to university after the play . If I had the financial backing I'd love to give these youngsters a chance to perform elsewhere but I just can't afford the risk. But I really appreciate the support and comments from all over the country we are getting... even the less than positive ones because as someone said to me recently..... as long as people are talking about it it has to be a good thing....
Mrtag Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 Wigan appears to be more popular than the French Riviera at the moment, It seems to get more publicity than Hollywood for goodness sake let sleeping dogs lie!!
Little-stevie Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 Wigan appears to be more popular than the French Riviera at the moment, It seems to get more publicity than Hollywood for goodness sake let sleeping dogs lie!! waste of time posting that .... Wigan will always be a topic while there is a soul scene.... I just avoid a topic with Wigan in the title most of time, you can do the same..... Nice to see young actors getting together for any stage performance, look forward to the feedback....

I couldn't seem to find an intro for you LTW? (Sorry I don't know your name). Welcome to Soul Source. I think folk get a warmer reception when they've introduced themselves. You know who your dealing with and what their motivations are etc. Rather than on, and sell sell sell! Big fond of the 100 Club & Soul Bros 6 btw.

Big fond of the 100 Club & Soul Bros 6 btw. Thank you for advice... I am new to this site and the whole being on a site thing.... just trying to let the soul community know about the show..... I am , like you big fan of 100 club and Soul Bros Six.... in fact.... ah but that would be giving too much of plot away..... as for motivations.... Well money and self promotion are absolutely NOT what this is about. I got a gang of young people who just want to put on a show and trust me enough to let me write it and direct them in it....... that's all it is.. Thank you to all who have been suportive....

I know that the W word is a contentious one with a lot of people who know a lot about the soul scene in this country but you know there is world beyond soul source that knows absolutely nothing about it . Whatever else it may or may not have been it's a little slice of social history and i like making plays about such things .... note making plays , not money.... .
Guest Carl Dixon Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 The very best of luck with your production. It's good to see fresh interpretations and creativity is still of interest with this popular topic. My dad was in the Second World War and even though he is 87 now, I have never heard him complain about the accuracy of any war film or documentary he has watched over the last 50 years, even though he lost many of his colleagues. I may try and get along, but I need to check my shifts.

All people have their own personal views based on their own personal experiences I guess.... buildings disappear, people get older and pass on..... here comes the cliche.... only the music seems to live forever..... Guest Matt Male Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 Making plays and films and writing books about things that happened in the past is 'jumping on the bandwagon'? I better burn all my war film DVDs, books on the middle ages and get rid of all those Shakespeare plays on my bookshelves eh? Can't have people jumping on the badwagon by making money on the past. What a stupid thing to say.

Guest Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 (edited) wonder how long before we get a play/film once upon a time at the wigan shopping centre In respect of one of the earlier replies , I am also now becoming somewhat indifferent to the subject . If someone wishes to produce another stage play / musical / film / animated short / TV mini - series / documentary / exhibition / theme park or whatever , that features ***** ****** , let them - as they say in these parts - " Gerron Wi' It " . Once what was the exception to the rule , has now become the rule rather than the exception . Nostalgia ? It ain't what it used to be ........ Malc Edited September 5, 2010 by Malc Burton

Malc Thanks .... we are gerrin on wi' it and a whole bunch of young people who have never heard of " Wigan " let alone the vast back catalogue of plays which have apparently been written about it ( I know if only one ) will hopefully have a good time and learn something about the history of popular music and youth culture..... I suppose arguing about music is as much a part of it as loving it.... al contributions have been stimulating and much appreciated..... thank you to everyone.

Guest Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 or "once upon a time on soul source " ..... might be an audience for that ... Can I pre - order my tickets now ? Malc
Guest Carl Dixon Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 Just bought my ticket. Looking forward to seeing the play very much. Bob, I work for Sky, so any literature you have let me have it etc. You never know if you go on tour etc. If I see the same enthusiasm in their performance as I had for the music back in the day, it will be a breath of fresh air. I had my dreams on a dance floor back in the early seventies, and I achieved it going to Detroit and Philly, so anything could happen to these performers too.
Guest lasttraintowigan Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 THANKS TO EVERYONE. I want to say a special thank you to Carl for support and for turning up to watch the play. I hope you got something from it. I know i got a lot from meeting and taliing to you plus some spanking new vinyl !!! And a big thank you to anyone else who came. We had some technical issues but I was real proud of those young performers .....
Guest Carl Dixon Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Hi Bob I really enjoyed the performance from all on stage. They did a great job, with alot of dialogue etc. You could see their enthusiasm throughout the play. You must all be proud of this accomplishment. Now, tell them all to go to their nearest Northern Soul gig and enjoy for real! Great to meet you to, It must have been a stressfull evening. But, you sold out of tickets which is great. Great to see the gentleman with all his togs and badges on display. I chatted to him and could see he was really looking forward to this premier. Best of luck with future productions, and please stay in touch via soul-source,
Guest lasttraintowigan Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 Thank you.... everyone. The yung people want to go to Edinburgh. looking for support out there....

Guest KTFProductions Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 LAST TRAIN TO WIGAN performed by K.T.F Productions writen by Bob Hawxwell after our sell out success at Norden Farm in september 2010, Last Train to Wigan has undergone an overhaul and will be returning with more soul than ever this august at the Edinburgh fringe festival being performed at the C Soco from august the 14th to the 20th at 10.10pm ticket price ranges from £6.50 to £9.50 booking available at: https://www.edfringe.com/search#q=show_performer%3Alast%20train%20to%20wigan&fq=dates%3A%5B2011-08-01T06%3A00%3A00Z%20TO%202011-09-05T06%3A00%3A00Z%5D more information available at: https://lasttraintowigan.blogspot.com/ or follow us at: https://twitter.com/KTFProductions1 A play about Life, Love and Northern Soul "You're here today and you're gone tomorrow" - Dean Parrish, 1967 From The Mecca to Va Va's, The Twisted Wheel to The Golden Torch, and finally The Wigan Casino Club. Taking the audience on a journey to the Northern Soul nightclubs of the mid seventies. Last Train to Wigan is a tale of minimum wage romance, amphetamine fuelled all-nighters, talc covered dance floors and rare imported vinyls. Forget glam rock, prog rock, Donny Osmond and David Cassidy. This is the stomping sound of Northern Soul. When middle aged Mike Walker finds his box of 7" records in the attic, it brings back memories of the two great loves of his life - Stef Meadows and the Casino Club. This is a play about keeping the faith, written and directed by Northern Soul survivor Bob Hawxwell. On its debut the self-financed piece sold out the 200-seat courtyard theatre at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts in Maidenhead. Such is the devotion of Northern Soul fans that people made the journey from Aberdeen to Berkshire just to see the play. Also in attendance was acclaimed director Tony Palmer who gave permission for footage from his Wigan Casino documentary to be used. Since then the troupe have fully embraced the "soulie" ethos and have been living the lifestyle to fund their way to Edinburgh, most notably hosting their own all-nighter. The play is fiercely true to the spirit of Northern Soul and can be enjoyed by both fanatics and first-timers. A tale of the redemptive power of music and of growing up, told at a pace that echoes the exuberance of the scene and the BPM of a Ric Tic record. Last Train to Wigan's minimalist staging is brought to life by its talented young cast, who were praised for their enthusiasm at its debut. With its original footage and stomping soundtrack all you need to enjoy this story of friendship, love and music is a bit of soul.
