Got Cliff's yesterday (with some neat artwork) and gave it a spin on the road today. Di'Ann Carlton,Johnny Green,Alicia Myers amongst others - just tremendous stuff.

Also got chance to give Mark Speakman's an airing and without doubt one of his tracks is an early runner for favourite so far - "Realistics - Putting it down (to the way I feel about you, girl) - sublime and as sweet as it gets in my opinion.

John Reeds has arrived today together with another which doesn't appear to have the compilers name attached to it.

It's titled "Have you heard any heartaches lately"

Could somebody please oblige.

Sean

I know this thread is about the CD swap but following up Sean's shameless plug :D

I ordered both of these from HMV a few days ago. "I Get My Groove" wasn't yet in stock so will be sent on when it is but "Love & Jealousy" came through this morning. What can I say apart from absolutely SUPERB!

As the cover states "The Deeper Side of Southern Soul" it really lives up to the claim. As you'll all know compilation CDs are often made up of a few excellent tracks surrounded by fillers, but not in this case.

Kudos to both Sean, Ian and anyone else involved for this excellent CD. Yes, we all have a lot of CDs to wade through but £4.99 for "I Get My Groove" and an even poxier £4.49 for "Love & Jealousy" and both being post free (HMV) they're a must.

.

I'm actually expecting "Love and Jealousy" to come through the door as Seans entry in this swap. A lot easier than going through the process of burning them all via iTunes :D :D

Had a listen to Cliff's CD today and really loved the Love.peace and happiness track. What LP is this off? The whole thing was great but extra stars for making it so snazzy.

It's from the Here 'Tis album, 1972. Ann Bogan is just incredible on that track, and it's just about the finest 4 minutes that Harvey Fuqua ever created...... great to see it found a place with you too...

soul children "the sweeter he is" probably track of the whole swap for me can't believe i'd not come across that before now.

sensational stuff.

Yeah, a superb track especially when J.Blackfoot (John Colbert) comes in on part 2 (which is the flip on the 45)

Just a great group, Jocko must rate 'em seeing as he has three tracks by 'em on his CD

Just seen this, Baz.

My pleasure indeed.

For me it's been a real education - just so much wonderful stuff, a lot of which I'd never heard before, Iv'e given all the CD's plenty of hammer over the last 2 months.

At some point I might do a "favourite from each CD " type of apraisal but for the time being a special merit award to Jock for 2 CD's even if one of them features the magnificent "Poem on the schoolhouse door" from the Soul Children twice!!

Yep definitely a great swop. I was playing Harry Battensby's / Sean Hampsey's and Dylan's CDs while driving around Chicago last week and they certainly made sitting on the 1-294 roadworks more pleasurable than usual! Must give a big thumbs up to Harry's CD. I came home hoping that The Four Tracks was the flip of Charade and The Kool Blues the flip of Try Love Again and bingo they were! Now all I've got to find is Queen Esther Marrow! Once again thanks to all the contributors for the wonderful music, Ady.

I'm in . Kitch suggested a group harmony swap - that and ballads would work for me.

Way to go boys, count me in, must sat though, still playing through original batch, takes a long time to digest all of that great music properly, catching a few things second or third time around.
