The Brid promoter wants to cover costs.yes.gifyes.gifyes.gif

Or is he paying his dj,s too much!!!sad.gifsad.gifsad.gif

do we have to turn this into another slagging off of certain promoters. People have choice, go or stay away. Both are popular events and no one knows what the overheads are at either.

I totally agree with Chalky nobody but the individual promoters know the costs involved and neither should they.

When it simply becomes a medium for slagging off a promoter all the time.

What I said was my own personal opinion, nothing to do with being a moderator. The topic was after just a few posts turning into a slagging off of one promoter and hailing the others as saviours of the peoples scene, that to me isn't a discussion.

Chalky, Bob asked a quite genuine question and a few replies were offered. I do not recognise any of those replies as either slagging one promoter off or singing the praises of the other.

Unlike Nev(who is one of the many voting with their feet) i will probably attending both events this time around and i do not have an issue or friendship/favouritism with either promoter.

I understand Bob asked a general question and nothing against that but it was IMO heading to a slagging off of one promoter with some of the comments made, with comments like one does it to make loadsa money and inferring that's all he does it for and that the other does it to simply cover their costs, I suppose any profit will go to charity?

Not being funny Chalky but one of the promoters said it himself in a previous thread - he is in it as a BUSINESS.

And businesses are in it to make money are they not?

not being funny either Joan, I don't know one promoter who runs a venue to make a loss....whether they are a business or not. I don't see any of these who are happy to simply cover costs donate all the profits to charity. Like I said this topic after just a few posts was beginning to turn into a slag off Kev Roberts topic......don't think we done that one before :hatsoff2::lol:

There's plenty on here and on the wider scene who make a living out of the soul scene, I don't see them get a constant slagging off!

Of course promoters make money. No one expects anyone to run a venue at a loss. Do you really think there are people on here that think they should?

There is a difference between running a venue occasionally and running venues as a business. But maybe that's just me.

Big Bob - you certainly know what topics to start to get peoples attention

And whats wrong with promoters making momey!!

Its seems a cardinal sinn on here if a promotor makes some money,, particulary certain promotors!

Are some people naive enough to seriously believe promotrers dont want to make any profit

I cant see either of the two venues mentioned stating on their publicity " We are a No Profit Making Buisness "

I would think 99% who attend both venues are just there to have a fantastic time wether it be Bridington or Whitby or BOTH EVEN!!

Most punters just want a boss weekend with no Soul Politics

Surey thats the most important thing!!

All this poster was asking was was the differnce if any between the two weekends ,,,,,,just MAYBE he meant,,,, musically,, faclities,,, record bars,, bar pices,,, food and drink available , how many rooms etc etc etc

Im sure BOTH weekends will be Great in their own ways and BOTH sets of Promotors who haved work so hard to make sure their vents are the Bizzo for their punters!

Of course it is a fair question. Just one that you will never get an answer to

That said, £20 and £35 is not a lot of money for a full weekend of soul, who ever the promoter is.

It s bloody cheap IMHO. The soul scene have been a bunch of tight gits for years biggrin.gif Tenner for an allnighter and still some moan. You wouldn't get a night out in a club for ten hours for a pound an hour. Bet it would cost double that in a top dance club? The cost to the average punter has hardly gone up for years, especially soul nights, we seem to want everything on the cheap.

Just had a google, Ministry Of Sound, £13 10.30 till 6.30 the cheapest, many other nights at £15 and £20. Would a soulie pay £20 for an allnighter?

They're all different...

Cleethorpes is 59.00

Prestatyn is between 40.00 and 100.00 and the luxury Hilton one is 169.00!

Isn't Bridlington so cheap because you're just paying for the do as such & you have to locate & sort out your own B&B's etc?

Chalks, in no way did i infer that Mr Roberts only puts on an event to make money. However by his own admission on many occasions on this website he has openly stated that he is in the business of promoting soul events and businesses exist to make money.

I have no issues with what Mr Roberts does, or does not do, in the world of soul music and the various avenues in which he is involved in a business sense. Much of what he has done over the years for the soul scene and is currently doing has to be admired and applauded.

It is unfortunate that you as a moderator have chosen to assume that people are slagging off another member on this forum, by thier tounge in cheek reply to a general question, wether it was a personal opinion or not.

Dont see the very eloquent and very funny Mr Burton copping the same flack!.

angry.gif Not this old argument again?! We have only been to Whitby but many of our friends go to Brid and some go to both. Both are well attended and great value for money!!!!! biggrin.gif We have always had a great weekend! biggrin.gifbiggrin.gif Is is not a matter of supporting as many of these weekenders as possible? what would we do if all the promoters said they had had enough of all the backbiting and stopped organising such events we would all be moaning then!!!!!

If you don't like the price don't go!!!

Looking forward to Whitby and meeting up with old and new friends.

There are alternatives to all weekenders, its not a case of support weekenders or there is no place to go, thats what your post implies...

There is a difference of £15 for a full weekend, does anyone really really care??? would the difference make you choose one or the other????? letters on a postcard please...

Where did anyone mention or slag off Kev Roberts Chalky?

In trying to answer Bobs question regarding why one is £20 and t'other is £35 i made a comment as to why the price differs and as far as im concerned i'll wager i'm not far off the beaten track.

I have no prob with Kev personally ,would have no prob shaking his hand ,having a conversation, or having a pint with him,so why you put two and two together and reach 10 is all about you jumping the gun ....and because you though you saw where this was leading, due to the nature of it being a provocative question.

Only weekend i've attended this yr was Morecambe North Lancs festival....it was all free ..nobody made any money (exept for the proprietors of the venue in revenue from alcohol and the hoteliers and guest houses),everyone had a great time and we'll all do it again next yr....being passionate about soul doesn't have to come with a hefty price tagthumbsup.gif

Political correctness gone mad..reminds me of why i don't bother with working mens clubs ..i just don't get committee menlaugh.gif

Fair point!! - Whitby is a great venue with a superb dance floor. You will be hard pressed to find anyone who does not enjoy themselves.

As for Brid as I said we have not been to the weekenders but we have visited the Spa and the venue is first class and looking at the previous photos and feedbacks soulies have a really great weekend.

What I will say is that Whitby is a much nicer town!! You pays your money and you takes your chances!!

Dead simple Bob ... it's all in the accounts , Overheads could be greater for one than the other thus resulting in higher admittance fee to recover costs to achieve profit... simpleeeeeeees

I don't believe any promotor putting on a massive event would operate a price structure to only break even no.gif but I stand corrected if anyone is prepared to show us their balance sheet laugh.gif

You pays your money and make your choice , I myself think both are excellent value for money you get a full weekends entertainment now how many hours is that ...eeem calc at the ready divide £30.00 by the hours ...thats 4 hours afternoon x2 = 8 andd 6 hours at night x 2 = 12 a total of 20 hours for 30 quid ?eeeeeem thats pretty cheap laugh.gif .... g.gif go to bed carmen !

it was a stupid first post anyway answered by....TWO DIFFERANT PROMOTERS..simple yes ?

lets have constructive poststhumbsup.gif

What a disingenuous question!

I suspect you type with one hand because the other is holding a very large wooden spoon.

People promoting weekenders are entitled to charge whatever they like, if you think the ticket price is too much to pay: don't go. Simple as that.
