Haydn Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Earnest Sparks - I'll be Glad - Soul O Sonic. I know this is on a few playlists and was trying to find more information about it, including the Soul O Sonic label. Anybody know more about it? H
Chalky Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 One of my biggies if you like. Old "Tate" Saving my love for you from Stafford (Guy spin). Practically forgotten about as far as I was aware until I started spinning it again, certainly not well known by today's scene except for those around in the 80's. You should get the Kelley's Heroes cd from couple of years ago, everything you need to know in the liner notes. Who elses playlist you seen this on?
Ernie Andrews Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 I quite like this - To me its like a soul jam musically with a vocal thrown over the top and it just about works - You can hear those piano tinkles being rammed in the background especially in the last 30 seconds. Good choice Haydn! What do you think would be the reaction at the belmont to it or is it for personal play? Steve
Haydn Posted June 9, 2010 Author Posted June 9, 2010 Thanks Chalky, I know you been playing it out but can't find one anywhere. It's a belter, but where can I get one? H
Haydn Posted June 9, 2010 Author Posted June 9, 2010 It's been a personal choice for a while, but I would try it at The Belmont nowadays, Steve. You never know what will rattle folks bones nowadays, there was a Latin interest a few months ago which went fine with some of my plays, lol Then again if you don't play the tunes out, then we are all left wondering, yes I would defo play it out:thumbsup: H
Ernie Andrews Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 (edited) Ive not seen one for sale and I dont know what its real value is although its £100 in Manships latest guide! Talking about latin Think it was Butch who came up to me at the Last Dundee and asked me out of the blue if I was selling my Black sugar! I said - sorry mate its not for sale- then I get 2 guys on here asking the same question must admit I do like Latin soul by Mongo Santamaria and one I played about 3 years ago is "I wanna Know" - by Aguabella. Peoples taste do change when they hear something they like ! Myself and Des will be organising nights for late this year and next year. Will let you know when they are happening! We are both busy with work at the moment but once it settles down we will be into the swing of things. Ive already got confirmation from Barbara Grassi a leading European female DJ from Italy - will do one of the nights as well as Mick H, and Kenny Burrell has offered as well so no problem getting DJs. Hope you might be available for one of the nights as I will probably not Dj that often and spend most of my time doing the promotion and Des doing the Club DJ bit! I hope to speak to him pretty soon as I never know when hes in the US or not and at this time of the year its pretty quiet round here! P.S you get first choice on an Ernest Sparks ATB Steve Edited June 9, 2010 by Ernie Andrews

I've been playing it on & off for last 4 years at Solid Hit Funny you mention Stafford Chalky cause when I first played it (Solid Hit @Kings Cross) Gene Robertson bounded up onto the stage wanting to know what it was as he knew it from Stafford but only under the cover up name. I think £100 quid is about the going rate, though I do remember seeing one advertised about 3 years ago as a white demo for £500 !!!!!!!!! Is there a white demo or did someone assume because the label is white it was a demo Whats the Kelleys Heroes CD then ?
Haydn Posted June 10, 2010 Author Posted June 10, 2010 Kelleys Soul Heroes released by Grapevine, Ernest Kelleys Detroit and New York material, Sparks is the first track on it Dave. H

Chalky Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 You wouldn't get mine for a ton. It's a harder record than that to get IMHO. The last two I saw sold both went for £300 +.

If I remember correctly there are several different coloured labels, would have to dig mine out to have a look. I agree with Chalky, about £300, Ernest told me that he wouldn't have pressed many more than 500 copies of this. Which would make it a fairly hard to find record 35+ years later. Dave

Dave I stand corrected The only ones I've seen for sale have been 100ish & though I've heard Chalky play it at Lifeline wasn't aware of anyone else (apart from me occasionally) playing it so assumed it had remained around that price....I'm happy if it's increasing in value Dave are you saying there's different coloured copies of this release or for the label in general ? Thanks

Thanks I also am ready to stand corrected, I thought I had seen one on a different coloured label, but just pulled mine out and it is also white, so maybe it was my imagination. The label generally had different coloured labels for nearly every release.
Louise Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 The offical A-side "Send For Me" is a catchy little ditty Dave.W
Haydn Posted June 12, 2010 Author Posted June 12, 2010 Belter Chalky, Nice one!!! Keep playin it, lol H
