Guest Dante Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 $600? Jeez, I never rated it as that rare a record. Shows how much I know. How much have the ones on Ebay been selling for? Well, Craig isn't know for his bargains, is he? He often has fairly common records for 30-50 bucks. And if it was sitting there for ages it means no one thought that was a fair price.

Guest Dante Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 You are right. Do you know how much the ones on Ebay went for? Don't know about the most recent, but from popsike: $899 06/2006 Mint- $633 12/2007 "VG clean" $314 1/2008 VG- Despite condition, it seems the price is dropping.

Wow. Thanks for that. Note to self - make sure to check if you ever decide to sell anything. I would have listed it for £100

Guest Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 There's was a seller on ebay, from Ohio who had quantity of this and another big Ohio piece. He was definitely eeking them out slowly, as he didn't want to flood the market. Most likely moved some to Moerer....

I would have listed it for £100 I have seen them listed and sold for 400 quid on here. I think I paid 350 for my copy in mint condition . One record I would have paid whatever for. cause I bloody love it !!! Edited June 7, 2010 by mossy

I think the price of everything is dropping mate !!! Look at prices on Popsike from say 5 years ago on loads of listings of quality 45s. Definatley a pattern there, prices are gowing down.....down.......down IMO !! I have had some great 45s this year for a fraction of what I would have had expected to pay in previous years. I have even noticed decent prices on JMs auction this year Great if you are collecting......not so great if you are selling

And it has been discussed before: the big (700/800 quid +) items are still fetching top money, but midweights and cheapies are going down. As you say: great for collectors, not so great for sales.

As you say: great for collectors, not so great for sales. I understand what you are getting at with the Hugh rarities - your margret little................etc etc etc But I dunno if its just all the smaller stuff This week on evil bay - betty turner winds kept laughing went for 525 - shaving 300 quid off of what it has sold for and been listed for for in previous years. I just think that the market must be getting smaller for soul records. Records seem to be out there on the internet in abundance. Tons of sites out there doing the set sale, I see loads of good tunes just sat there on these sites.......for months or even years. When I was buying records in the 80s I was always chasing dealers, waiting for lists and going to all nighters, making connections, digging in boxes. Good records seemed to be harder to get hold of then - other than just having the spare money. I used to travel miles just to get a couple of records. Now you can just sit back and click away all day and all night - waiting for the right price - putting low bids on things and not being bothered if you lose, because you know there is another quater of a million records on the internet to look at or bid on. Add all that to a shrinking market for Soul records. To me the prices of soul records have been just like the prices of houses were at - and now they seem to be re-ajusting back to reflect reality. Brilliant ! More records for me !!!! Just a few thoughts .

But that is all it's worth in reality, past prices have been inflated with people having more money than sense, now times are harder collectors are no longer prepared to pay over the odds just to get a record. Genuine rarities collectors are still prepared to stump up some cash.

This is what happens when you have had a record forever and have no interest in selling stuff - you don't bother keeping up with its current value. Good record though for sure.
funkyfeet Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 More and more of the average priced tunes are turning up, price has to come down, before ebay we thought a lot of these records were rareish, ebay has proved they are not.

There was a great thread about this some months ago: "Records De-Rarified Through eBay" or something like that.
