Costas Posted June 3, 2010 Author Posted June 3, 2010 What is Voodoo R&B? R&B from New Orleans? I think that there is no typical rule or no specific region for that ! Just want to see, as anyone apprehend this kind of music, as already (southpaw) did with Billy Preston
Diggin' Dave Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 First one I'm thinking of is 'It's your voodoo working' by Charles Sheffield...
Guest Matt Male Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 I think that there is no typical rule or no specific region for that ! Just want to see, as anyone apprehend this kind of music, as already (southpaw) did with Billy Preston So what do you mean by Voodoo R&B?
Pete S Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 So what do you mean by Voodoo R&B? I'm as confused as you - asks if we like it then won't tell us what it is, so how the f*ck do we know if we like it or not?

I'm thinking he means tunes with voodoo in the title or about magic or witchcraft. Who knows? Betty Lavette - Witchcraft In The Air? Edited June 3, 2010 by Matt Male

Reg Scott Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 I would have thought Voodoo R&B refers to records made or influenced by New Orleans or Mississipi Delta tunage.. And that perhaps the term R&B is meant to refer to early R&B, Soul & Funk from this perspective.. If not I wouldn't know what the frig else it might mean - surely not simply naming tunes with Voodoo or related terms for a title or artist.. Over to the original poster..
ImberBoy Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Just listening to Billy Preston - Volcano I like it, the bongo's seam be the only musical accompaniment with a female backing that I like a lot. The sax makes a welcome appearance and the track changes slightly and a piano can be heard to drive it along a little although the tempo doesn't increase. It's very pleasant to the ear and I'll deffo be listening to it again. I should imagine that if the percussion was dropped and replaced by a more Detroit feel then this would become an instant stomping sound, but that kinda isn't the point is it. The track oozes sex appeal but I'm not too sure if I could dance to it? Cracking track! More please

Guest Dante Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Like The Cramps then? Don't think so, Pete. Haven't heard the term before, but I think it refers to raw R&B with strong links to work songs and hollers from the deep south. Or not.

Anais nin Carms Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 (edited) Maybe vooodoo is the devils music Pete For deep and dark side R&B it has to be Black wings has my angel for me , it has that great harmonica element which always puts a spell on the listener and toys with the feet. Lavern Baker Vooodoo Voodoo and Charles Sheffield are the obvious one's , but i am sure there are many more out there. Actually I heard a great Tommy Ridgley played the other month played by FrancisT can anyone throw any light on this tune for me please ? can't think of the title something about loving you more today than yesterday maybe ? New Orleans soul R&B Going off at a tangent now anyone remember the witch queen of new orleans .. I used to love that chart topper as a kid. Edited June 6, 2010 by Carms
Guest Beeks Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 I've heard it all now..voodoo R&B indeed..it is what it is..all these sub catagories are just f**king daft
