Chalky Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 Who remembers.... used to be (I think) a big rave upstairs, only legal one in the country??? Anyway enough of that, what's your memories of the Northern from downstairs, hope you see this Dan, is he still on here?
Guest nubes Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 Yep ..My sis Viki and myself went there twice .....was so nice to have a niter close by..still very strange...that Coventry never really seem to have that many soulies.....considering how big a fan base that area of the Midlands had..and still solid...Delxx

harpo1 Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 Also don't forger the dayers at the Irish club, brilliant line ups therePep, myself, Roger, Guy, Cliff, Kitch just for starters. Was talkin' to Cliff the other week 'bout 'em, we could "go a bit" in those days, sold him my Kenny Wells the last nighter we did together. Then the nighter at the youth club place, lots of drunken people, decks in the kitchen, through the hatch..scary!!!!
Guest cenco Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 I remember going to a nighter in coventry at a place called the eclipse there was a rave on there the same night...
Guest Byrney Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 IRISH CLUB ?????? YES ECLIPSE A FEW THERE ! Yeah it was the eclipse, quite funny watching ravers gurning / skipping across the dance floor to George Lemons Used to nip up to the rave for a bit myself Also went to the leisure centre nighters where you could gain access to the pool but also some others which I think Dan (who used to be on here) promoted which were in some hexagonal school building.
Eddie Hubbard Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 I went to two nighters in Coventry , one at a leisure centre , swapped Carolyn Crawford " Forget about me " with Cliff Steele for Rhonda Davis on Duke .The other one at a different venue was memorable due to the car next to ours in the car park catching fire ..wondered if we would get home to be honest ...lol....what year were these, late 80's ? Cheers ,Eddie
Guest Eddies Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 (edited) yep...seem to remember it had a bowling green there??? Also recall a few of us playing footie there and Pecker from Cheltenham grabbing Tommo Bommo by the throat after a nasty tackle. Edited May 31, 2010 by Eddies

Guest Northern PhanTom Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 Sat Nav tom Ted, are you suggesting a new user name for me.
Realpeoplesmusic Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 (edited) I was intreagued(spelling?) when i seen all-nigters Coventry mentioned growing up as as midlander partying hard in mod/indie/soul clubs as a youngster back in the day (2002-2004ish) Bloody hell it really does make the whole thing seem all olde wilde when i have such a strong connection as close to home as coventry (not now i live in newcastle). 1986 that was the year i was born and i'm now going to clubs or such as burnley/lifeline where cliff steele/butch are still dj-ing , CRAZY!. However I do understand that these boys have been in them game a long time and have records i could only dream of owning. I mean butch playing one of my fav's keith curtis at 100 club last week as his opening record, that must be worth 2k at least! The whole soul scene thing is just mental but i do love it! Edited May 31, 2010 by callum_64
TOAD Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 kieth curtis has been known to me since 1979 a great rare record was a hard slog doing things in cov, maybe one day i'll start something up again !
Realpeoplesmusic Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 kieth curtis has been known to me since 1979 a great rare record was a hard slog doing things in cov, maybe one day i'll start something up again ! Keith Curtis top tune I never liked it at first but after heraing it out loud in a club a few times that sax break really does kick ass. Thought about having a bid on manships but snapped back into reality, thank god! Coventry is fucked mate I wouldn't bother. there's shit loads of decent nights in surrounding area's such as Move On, Bidds + Lifeline also there's too many 80's revival I want to kick your head in mods/skinheads. I used to knock about with these types before i discovered proper soul music instead of the jam/specials/who! Callum
TOAD Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 D´jd myself at the leisure centre started the spot with Jesse Davis...no i didn´t i had cued up the slip mat!! Wasn´t there an all dayer next to the radio station? Steve yes before that nighter had started breaks snooker club
Rugby Soul Club Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 Not sure who the DJ was but at one of the all-niters held at The Eclipse, they had forgotten their keys for their playbox... Luckily we knew someone in the rave room from Rugby who knew how to open locks without keys...

Guest ruffsounds Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 (edited) The Treetops on Foleshill Road was a great venue which i started off as i lived in same road as the owners and grew up with them, then a certain Mr Waterman poked his nose in and i jumped ship lol.
