Yer Top 3 Cheap As Chips

Recommended Posts

Doing the next Cheap as Chips night on Friday 25th June and if the last one was anything to go by it'll be a stormer.

Anyway, I've got my Cheap as Chips playbox but I've just added two more delicious tunes to it today and would love to hear your favourite Cheapies. Any with soundclips would be greatly appreciated.

My top three at the moment are:

Alfreda Brockington - Your love has got me chained and bound - Phil-La (been around for ever and just got itself back in my playbox)

Afro Blues Quintet Plus one - La la la la la - Mira (my tip for the next year if you like your latin - got the makings of a monster)

Jeanette Williams - Stuff - Backbeat (every home should have this - would punch a hole through concrete)

Cheers and enjoy.

Bunny Sigler-Sunny Sunday Parkway........sounds as good as any four figure tunes when played out.

Millie Jackson-Breakaway Spring........great version.

Patti LaBelle-Teach Me Tonight Epic.........if you like Latin meets soul this is for you.

Difficult to pick only 3.........103 would have been easier

Cheers

Heard this for the first time on Saturday Martyn, when you spun it in the upstairs room at Tadcaster - great tune!

Rich

First time I've played it out & was a bit worried it might be a little "too" Latin but seem to go down well, plenty on the floor to it

Cheers

Don Covey "It's Better To Have"

Constellations " I Didn't Know How To" .......... Could not give a fiddlers what it goes for today its not rare and only 12yrs or so ago it was a £2.00 record in every box.

And same applies to number 3 on my list, only it was cheaper and even more of these about than above.

Metros "Since I Found My Baby"

That my moan over so i will do it again with a proper todays value cheapie three.

first one as above, number two for me would be Al Green "Don't Leave Me"

And third has to be Johnny Taylor "Friday Night"

I love collecting records all the time, I dont just buy established expensive records so I can impress myself, I like to collect allsorts of bits n bobs cause I actually love Soul

music. Dick waving rare 45s about is great but sometimes I feel we forget about the actual music itself.

Three very cheap records that I have bought and really enjoyed this week are as follows:

Barbara Mason - Troubled child - Crusader - this cost me £7.00 (Its a sad but great ballad that I will play every now and then when I am having a chill at home)

Little Pattie - Pushing a good thing to far - Austrailian HMW - £10.00 (I already had her ep but this copy was in much better nick and its a lovley version IMO)

Ruby Johnson - Weakspot - Volt - £9.00 ( Ive had a few of these over the years - I always pick it up if its cheap cause its so nice, but I think I will hang on to this one now

as I hadn't seen one for ages and had forgotton how lovley it is.

I remember being in my teens in the 80s when I used to hear DJs like Pat Brady play cheap tunes - Jimmy Robbins "I can't please you" or The Uniques "not too long ago" or

Gene Chandler "There was a time" - I would pop to the record bar with my last bit of spare change and pick them up before I got my lift , then get them on the deck at home

for half an hour before I collapsed :D

I would need £2000 spare in my back pocket at the end of the night to do that at an allnighter in 2010 !

What a pointless post, we all bought records far cheaper years ago  And as for constellations it was more like 20 years ago and it was more than £2 back then. The whole point of the topic is what can you buy cheap TODAY.
