THIS IS THE BEST SCENE EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!IT ALWAYS HAS BEEN AND ALWAYS WILL BE Where do you know where you just take off and up and go and when you get there you get people who talk to you,,,hug you,,dance with you ,,(lend u money to get in,when uve forgot to draw some money out!!!) , take u to a mcdonalds after a niter when ure really upset when they dont even know you!!, no matter where you go,,the northern soul scene (however diverse it is) has just got the best people on the planet and i thank them all both now and when i first started going in Sep 81.... our lifes change and things happen all the time and probably wont go every week forever but this scene is really valuable and i hope its always there because its always been there for me and god knows im so glad it has been... putting any event on is stressful and rely on punters to make them work out,,,whatever music ure into try and support ure local all-niter ,,,it really is that special - well i think so!! see u at radcliffe next week to those that are going regards mark
Guest Matt Male Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 You're right mate. I think we forget sometimes (especially when we are having a good argument on here) that we're all part of something great and that will always be there for us. I can't imagine doing a niter a week thesedays though.

Dave Thorley Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 I'm not always as enamored at times with the UK nighter scene as you Mark, but I do have to say that a few years back when everything went tips up, it was the the soul scene here and in europe that litterally saved my life. So I do know where your coming from, peoples capacity to take on a troubled soul and help them through is amazing. I have said thanks to many since, but many more that were kind to me I can't remember as I was in such a mess. So to one and all of you thanks. Dave

Seriously though, totally agree with Mark, its a great scene and i have many friends all over this sceptered isle Dont agree to much with the male bonding group huddle thing though Although in the last 18 months IMO opinion we have lost, Middleton (the original civic was the dogs bollox of a venue) Burnley to, hopefully the new promoters will sort the early teething probs out by the time i get back from me Jollies in July and Burnley will be banging again, albeit with a slightly different DJ line up. Absoloootyeee my sentiments exactly i really value this scene the friends ive made and the music ive discovered ...priceless my job is pretty much thankless dangerous and unrewarding but out on that floor im in another world where i get to be myself and be around good friends its not 100 percent perfect but i think it works pretty damn well ive had my dark times and people have picked me up and helped me out (you know who you are !! ) and ive been kinda humbled at peoples generosity and spirit i remember one time at prestatyn almost in tears at the end of the weekend knowing that the world was waiting for me outside those gates but every saturday night i get to revisit that feeling and take comfort in knowing that at the end of a long journey there is a load of mates with a warm and genuine welcome waiting for me and that is something quite special KTF

Can't contemplate the alternative. Love ya all. ........................Kev. Dead right Kev. When i emigrated to Australia with my lovely other half Sue 10 years ago i had all but forgotten abouit the ' scene ' we all love so much, sold most of my records, chucked all my old gear away etc. Found absolutely naff all to do here so started our own monthly soul nights. That was some 5 years ago. Sue had never heard of Northern Soul even though she lived in St. Ives. Now she buy's her own records, deejay's and organises our nights which we hold in a really unique venue. We have made over 200 new friends since we started and as you say if anyone had said to me in 1973 that i would be running my own soul nights in Australia when i'm 50 i reckon the answer would have been ' fookin do one mate'. Seriously though, there is nothing better than seeing all your friends enjoying themselves in a like minded manner, forgetting all the crap of their daily lives with a smile on their faces. Long live this truly wonderful scene we have created over the last 40 years. Let's not keep it, let's spread it. It's better than any medicine, shame we can't bottle it. Stay true to the roots and above all stay soulful. Tony T Bone, spreading the Faith down under and darn right proud of it. There is no alternative !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Guest BigPaul Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 Mark, Watch him he will want to wash your back,in the baths Old Collier,Kev. And i'd piss down the back of his legs while i were sponging his back
Guest Phoenix8049 Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 Its the only scene i know where you can talk to a total stranger, and they don't think you have just escaped from the local mental institution. Or a guy can talk to a a girl and her not thinking he is trying to pick her up. Or a guy talk to another guy, without him thinking he must be gay. Stu.
Guest Old Soul Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 It really is hard to explain to none northern soul friends and relatives what it's like on the scene, our music genre just runs through our veins. I took an old friend of mine to a northern night a couple of months back for his first foray into our world, on entering the venue his first words were "blimey this record seems a bit scratched" when I said it was an old vinyl he said "what's up can't they afford some new CD's". He just couldn't get his head round how old some of these records were or why he had never heard of any ofthem as he used to be in a band in the late 60's early 70's. Needless to say he said "thanks but no thanks" to a return. But just to say no matter how down you are, going to a northern night and dancing to some of the greatest tunes ever produced just blows the blues away. KTF

Guest soulmanvirgin Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 I remember when??????????????????????? Years ago as a young teenager, ya never said boo to a goose. Now the whole scene is like a massive family. everybody speaks to everbody. have met some great people on the scene over the last few years. also spent quality time on holiday with some. Great friends and extended Family. Mr Freeman, you have said it all.
Mark Jones Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 For me, it's the closest thing I've ever had to religion in my life in all my 28 years on the Northern scene...and I'm an atheist!! Hang on...in correction to my post...IT IS A RELIGION!! I personally reckon the Bible was written in Detroit...with a few disciples from Chicago, New York and on occasion others! But seriously the intensity of the passion for the scene is up there!...just I prefer Soul heaven to the Christian one!
