Chris L Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Is there anything out there that tells the story of of WI music that came to the UK in the 60s? I'm assuming it want from ble-beat to ska to rock-steady and finihed up being called reggae. As a kid I bought tons of stuff on Trojan, Bamboo, Gas, Pama, etc. I can never ever remember calling it reggae

Chris L Posted June 12, 2010 Author Posted June 12, 2010 Tighten Up and Young Gifted & Black both indispensable books, the very best written about Jamaican music in the UK I bought the Tighten Up book, should be an interesting read when I'm on the coach from London to Stoke in July
Chris L Posted June 24, 2010 Author Posted June 24, 2010 Tighten Up and Young Gifted & Black both indispensable books, the very best written about Jamaican music in the UK Started reading this book, looks good, takes me way............way back.............Northern Soul even gets a mention. The book makes the point that the early scene was very, very London based, so it was normal for us to grow up in that environment. When the "scene" changed to include funk, that was our departure theme tune. Thank heavens Tony Rounce siad "Go Norf Young Men"..................... Good book, thanks for the tip people
