John Wayne discovers that the copy of The Sweet Things ~ I'm in a World of Trouble he'd purchased from Julian Bentley the week before at the Torch was a bootleg, Jez jones wades in after 9 secs to help him.

I never knew the raliings separating the entrance area from the dance pit at the Torch were made of paper

After 24 secs

John Wayne says "why ya helping me mate"

Jez says " I brought one as well"

After 31 secs

Matchie gets Watney Brown Ale bottle on the head

After 50 secs

Sue Hey on the balcony turns to Chris Burton and yells " this'lll cost you a small fortune to put this fooker right Chris laugh.gif "

Torch Reunion 2010 Charity CD

Alan Day . Tony Jebb and Martyn Ellis Live At The Torch 1972

Simply ooooooooooooooozing atmosphere and recaling the majesty of The Torch , and for a 38 year old cassette taped recording , the sound quality of the records played and DJ announcements are absolutely first class . Includes the sartorial elegance of Alan Day , announcing that Tony Jebb is on after him , telling all and sundry that he is handing over to " The north's number one spinner - what a load of crap " laugh.gif

The CD features excerpts from spots by Alan Day , Tony Jebb and Martyn Ellis , spinning Torch monsters like Gerry and Paul , Luther Ingram , Jerry Cook and Duke Browner .

The CD will be on sale at The Ryan Hall during the day / night of October 23rd priced £5 , with every £5 paid going to the three selected Torch Reunion 2010 charities .

If you are unable to attend ( should have bought your ticket early  ) and wish to puchase a copy of the CD , I am taking orders for postal delivery . Please email me at burtonmalc@yahoo.co.uk with your name and number required , and I will place you on the list to receive a copy , and will contact you back by email when they are ready .

Shameless and unmitigated bump ..................

Why not ? it for Charidee after all :D

Let's be having those orders !!

1972, oh what a year

It was full of fighting, fashion and gear

It was the odd pint of Double Diamiond & Ben Truman beer

It was Boro's hangouts The Metho, The Bell and Oak

It was French Blues and the way we choked

It was Terrace culture with kick to kill

It was being one step ahead of the Old Bill

It was Terry Jacks and "season in the sun"

It was "we've got Cobblers on the run"

It was the SelectaDisc list arriving by post

It was ringing Arkwright Street so you could boast

It was meeting at 6pm for a journey to Bletsoe

It was wondering how 8 would fit into an Austin Allegro

It was blokes from up North who told us about this club in Stoke

It was Eddie Din who said "lets go up there they seem nice folk"

It was me Terry and Vheat who went up there on Feb 10th 1973,

The rest is as they say " History"

37 years on its time to go back

Can't wait for 1pm under the Plaque

Sat October 23rd....The Tunstall Torch Reunion

By the look on Pam's face , is the album called " Oi Loike Them Bustaids " ? :tumbleweed3:

Here is another brilliant ode - cannot remember the name of the author : anyone confirm ?

In a place called Tunstall, near Stoke-on-Trent

A very special club, that I did frequent

By road or rail, we all made our way there

How we got home well we just didn't care

Because to dance all night, was our thing

To Sam and Kitty, or "Shingaling"

The Kingspinners played, the whole night through

Eddie Parker, The Shakers and "I Still Love You"

One week there would be, a brand new sound

The next it was yours, for just a pound

Hoagy Lands, Rose Battiste, and Nolan Chance

Roy Hamilton and Little Caesar, made everybody dance

The Torch fans danced, the night away

Showing off the steps, they practiced each day

Some sliding and spinning, others seemed to flaot around

These were the very best dancers, there were to be found

I've Been Hurt "Landslide", and "He Who Picks a Rose"

"Rat Race" "Thumb a Ride", the list just grows

"Personally" "I'm Standing", "Crying Over You"

"Angel Baby" "One in a Million", and "What Would I do"

Junior Walker, Bob and Earl, and Doris Troy

Fontella Bass, Edwin Starr, they were all a joy

But When "Live at the Torch", was recorded by Major Lance

It was one night there wasn't, any room to dance

Each morning all too soon, when it was time to go

Jimmy Radcliffe rang out loud, to finish off the show

As the soul fans made, their way out of the door

They all knew that they, would be back for sure

When I look back on the Torch, the thing that stands out

I feel honoured to have been, of this I have no doubt

The Golden Torch may be 37 years gone

But in my heart, The Torch lives - Right On!!

It was sent to me last year .

Sadly , as I stated when posting it , I cannot remember who the author is / was .

It was written in 2008 , , and I took poetic license with it when posting it to bring it " up to date " , as the original line towards the end , states " The Golden Torch may be 35 years gone , But in my heart, The Torch lives - Right On !! " .

It is a wonderful and correctly descriptive ode to a very special venue and time .
