I tend to get this when I'm listing a Rolling Stones 45, not an obscure soul record, makes you laugh when you see the 1000's of boots on there.

Yes I know Pete, but occassionally they then get pulled, Shakin' Steven's 45 are a prime example I don't know how many of his I've had pulled still can't get my head around that, he must be one of validators.

how is this strange? Doesn't this make a lot more sense that a rolling stones bootleg would be policed by ebay than a no-label 45 where the ownership of the rights isn't even known? maybe it's sad that thousands of boots get by, but it's not strange.

Yeh , but he probably just doesn't like Shakey ! (and I can't blame him!) :)

Cheers

Swifty

P.S. on a serious note , I've sold some old pressings on e-bay and have said at the front that these are not

originals bit 2nd/Reissues because I dont want to con anybody but I cannot understand how all these obvious

boots get away with it, I mean lots are on big lables but I suppose they just let it go. I'ts not fair to people who have just started collecting , although you may say they should know better? Hey we've all been had at somepoint, aint we !

But why should it be any different ? a Boot is a Boot , not having a go mate but it just seems wrong

I wasn't listing a bootleg at the time, it just seems that ebay pick up on certain items, list a Rolling Stones or Shaking Stevens it happens, list a Beatles it doesn't so what is the trigger. I've listed loads of 70's pressing where it's not happened but this was an original run of the mill soul record.

The only two records I have EVER had pulled from eBay were early Shakin' Stevens 45. They got pulled because it had been reported to eBay from "Shakin' Stevens management" that the items I was selling were unofficial release. BUT THEY WERE NOT! They were however 45s/EPs from his 1970-1980 pre-EPIC days that he for some reason apparently wants to have erased from everyone's memory. When I contacted his management about the matter they were adamant that anything by Shakin' Stevens that isn't still in print and for sale through his current record label are unofficial releases.

Quite amazing really.

That's the reply I got from them as well, I was selling some patches and records from the 70's at the time.

To be fair to Shaky, it's actually his manager, not him, who's scouring eBay every day and making this happen. I know someone who knows him and apparently he's a complete cnut. He even tries it on with collectors shops who are selling Shaky collectables over the counter, and has threatened a couple of people I know with lawsuits for trying to sell early Shaky records. (I'm just glad that I've still got that Parlophone copy of 'Down On the Farm' that I picked up in the early 70s...)

Frank Sinatra's estate are very hot on 'unauthorised' product, too. A pal of mine had his entire inventory taken down and received a three week suspension for offering a CD box set of 1940s radio performances as a 'buy it now'. Of course, under European law, everything on it was out of copyright anyway, but that obviously cut no ice with Frank's people - and I would imagine that, even in death, he still has some pretty heavy associates...

I've only ever had one listing declined/removed, which was for a Walter 'Wendy' Carlos 'Switched On Bach' LP test pressing, which eBay told me was a bootleg even though it was acquired from someone who worked in A&R at Carlos' label CBS in the late 60s and was pressed from the same stampers that were used to make the stock copies!

Their is another reason why this happens!

An ebay member sees an Item he wants so he reports it however many times it gets listed . He then emails the seller to offer a misely sum.

I had this with some rare framed items I was selling on behalf of a work colleague.

3 times John lennon signed Imagine album was removed even though I had put a lot into the description including extensive references to the author of the COA.

This guy then emails me offering $50 for it saying it was a fake (It was a rare signature including the famous Glasses signature and a yoko signature in the corner & Ive seen lots of JL signatures due to the fact I knew Julian lennon when he was young. .) I contacted ebay and they hadnt thought of that one. Luckily another person had seen the listing and offered just under 2k for it.
