For me there must be many many times, far too many to count.

However at Shotts ? Glasgow around 14 years ago,

Absolutely off my head, spent all night in the other room buying and selling records.

Went in main room.

They had gigantic , like 29 foot curtains hanging in front of the windows.

It was about 7.30 a.m.

Shafts of sunlight pierced the gaps in the curtains and lit the dance floor in all sortts of wierd shapes and shafts of light.

They played REGGIE ALEXANDER IT'S BETTER.

I'd never heard it before in all my life.

The floor packed, it was absolutely f***** dynamite.

JESUS CHRIST the atmosphere was ........................................well WOW.

I was 42 years old then and ran up to DJ stand to see what it was, like I did at the Wheel when I was 16.

Alas, it was covered up then.

I'll never forget that not ever.

P.S.

That was the last time I ever scored caps and pills.

DB had scored them even though they were long gone, from some unknown source in Scotland.

(There was some old chemist, warehouse, or something)

Ooh, I might write another 5 minute moment

got glassed with a beer mug when watching edwin starr in the early 70s in yate, not sure if it was the place that became the nighter venue ..................and was carried on stage to await the ambulance, so everyone had to stand around doing nowt till i was strechered out, while my mates exacted revenge on the culprit.............

sitting cross legged on stage right in front of Eddie Parker while he sang 'Love You Baby'

He put the mic to my face and let me sing the chorus - that will stay with me for ever!!!!

embarassing one:

Marv Johnson in between songs on stage ...... called me up .... wtf does he want me for i thought

he grabbed my arm and said (into the mic) something like, "what the hell is that!!" referring to a (horrible) tattoo on my arm

i mumbled some crap and quickly made my way into the crowd

It was one dark autumn evening in 1970 . . . when I first found myself in the Catacombs Club, Temple Street, Wolverhampton.

I had recently moved up from Southern parts and after 5 years of interest in the rarer side of soul music thought I knew a bit about it.

But the first 5 minutes in that hallowed building hit me like a bombshell.

It was WTF X 1000.

It was like I had entered some parallel universe.

Eternally grateful for that first 5 minutes and the subsequent 40 years.

several memories shine through the phetamine fog/alzheimers- being dragged on stage 1966 at15 years old about 3 am by tina turner to "shake yo ass boy" and did just that!! p.p.arnold in backing singers ikettes gave me a kiss! i seemed to get even higher than 5 blues ever could make me. beingheld by the hand and sung to by one of the soul sisters dressed in silver dresses that were straining to hold them in a few months later at another niter, and jnr walker playing a request -shotgun for my 17th birthday at the wheel june 1968 just some of the magic moments you got with all nighters. not an allnighter but spent half an hour with edwin starr at hallamshire hospital in sheffield after he had a heart attack on stage got a big signed poster and other bits in the loft at my ex wifes

Speaking of PP Arnold, this 5 minutes is not as far back as some other memorable moments, but I had just interviewed Pat at the time she had a new single coming out with the band Pressure Point (in the 80's) and after the interview, I told her I had to dash off to do a gig at The Six Hills Hotel on the A46 in Leicestershire, and she offered to bring the band, and do me a PA, totally free of charge, which I thought was great. She went down a storm too!

My proper 5 minutes was meeting Edwin Starr in 66 at the Dungeon Club in Nottingham, he had just come off stage having sung the likes of SOS and Headline News, and just started to talk to me, amazing! Odd coincidence, his widow Jean still comes to The Westgate Suites in Long Eaton every so often.

h, if you went to the dungeon you may know about a niter in the mid sixties that was on for a few months, at long eaton. i think that it was at or near a speedway stadium much like the brilliant earls barton dog track allniter in the northampton area that i used to travel down to, that is til myshagged out morris 1000woody estate disintegrated!!!!!! it was, if memory is vaguely correct , around 68-69. if youre from notts do you remember little eric, batman, algy and radio-did you know radios real name as for 40 years ive been trying to find it out and was informed he died recently --did he take the secret to his grave?
