Jill Bayles Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 14...and hated the place...was ready for my bed by 2am & eating a pack-up by 4am...and as unsociable as they come...was dragged there kicking and screaming by my older adoptive sis...no way was she having me staying at home otherwise she wouldn't have been able to go either. I was her alibi Didn't have to try to get in the place either cos we both looked older than our tender years Never really liked Northern but did eventually form an affinity with the place for the social side of things...just used to switch off from the music...except for the more upfront stuff...always liked that. Stopped going week in week out long before it shut up shop as I'd burned out. I guess the Casino experience was kinda wasted on me

Guest Mrs Simsy Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 Great thread! I love hearing these stories. My brother is nearly 15 now and i'd be horrified at the thought of him & his mates travelling to somewhere as far away as Wigan on their own! I know things are different now but it still amazes me that loads of you sneaked out and travelled the country!

Guest Neil-ok Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 Was 15,getting id'd was only the start of the problems because i never had any money:no:,used to hide on the train from Warrington Bank Quay to Wigan then give Mrs woods the puppy eyes to let me in,most of the time she would give me 10 mins to go in and cadge the entrance fee of people i knew in there or it was on hands and knees and crawl in between legs past the bouncers:thumbsup:,got caught a few times as well:nono:. Getting home was a whole new adventure:lol:. Most of the young uns i knew where about 14/15.

HI AL.. I REMEMBER THE NIGHT THAT TOTP FEATURED NORTHERN SOUL DANCERS, DANCING TO"FOOTSIE" ON THE SATURDAY, MIKE WALKER TRIED TO TURN ME AWAY BECAUSE IT WAS FULL UP, NOT EXCEPTING THAT AS A EXCUSE AND AS A REGULAR WHO HAD TRAVELED UP FROM NORTH HERTS, WOULD ANYONE? WHEN I DID GET IN THERE WERE CHILDREN ALL AROUND THE PLACE AND BY 3am THEY WERE ALL ASLEEP SUCKING THEIR THUMBS, BLESS THEM. SO I RECKON IT MUST BE ONE OF THESE, AS QUITE CLEARLY SOME LOOKED LIKE 11 YEAR OLDS TO ME! DAVE KIL

Jill Bayles Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Some of us never had to sneak out, even at 14 just say i'm off out for the weekend, football and nighters. Same here...we'd done the under-age drinkin thing and by 14 had grown out of that our parents were so fed up to the back teeth of us rollin home at all hours in drunken stupours that we were easily able to persuade them that the Casino was a good place for us to be cos of the no-alcohol policy...oh how naive they were and by the time they realised just what a den of iniquity it really was we'd been there done it and worn the t-shirt only parental rule for me and my adoptive sis was that we went together, stayed together and came home together and that she looked after me as she was the eldest...yeah right...other way round methinks...but the rule was easy to abide by as we'd been stuck like glue since my birth 5 months after hers in 1960 and that endured til her untimely death in 2002...rest in peace and love Steph
DennieFitz Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 I was about 13 when I first went to the casino, they had soul nights which were just as packed as the allnighters. I was 14 when I first went to an allnighter, I remember being pushed in and this bouncer putting his hand out and everybody putting money in it (notes them days). I don't remember every sneaking out just diverting the truth to where I was going. I remember this lad in my class at school first coming in with a casino patch and everybody was stood there asking him where he had been.

Guest Matt Male Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Some of us never had to sneak out, even at 14 just say i'm off out for the weekend, football and nighters. That was the funny thing. I never had to sneak out either, or lie about where i was going. My parents were quite happy for me to take the train 200 miles north to spend the whole night in a run down club surrounded by people off their heads (they didn't know about the last bit i think). I think we might have mentioned we were going with the 'responsible' older crowd from Nuneaton.

Citizen P Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 I was 17 in 1973 and always looked youthful for my age( still do in truth ) However I was never challenged at Wig Wam.Although I was at a lot of other do's. The youngest I can remember was Kay who came with us from Salford and young Bomber ( Graham ???????) from Ashton way I think-who were both 14 on their first visits. ATB# # Tony

grantdyche Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 How much was it to get it in the 70's? Bloody good question, The 75p rings a bell, It doesn't sound a lot nowadays,But my first weeks wage was £6.00, So 75p was a lot of dosh in those days The price of an average British single was 25p
Eddie Hubbard Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 I went for the first time a week after my 18th birthday in 1975 , though me and Tabs travelled for ages by train on 13 year children tickets !! Best ,Eddie

KTF Different times really, But many of the young kindergarten kids are on here and replying to this type of conversation, Not me of course coz I was 16 and a bit when I first went to The Casino,So I'm an oldie, If they where 13 etc they must have had painted on "Tash" for the lads,And socks stuffed down the Bra's for the girls, Because when I was 13 I was covered in yellow black headed spots on my face,And could only just manage a hard on in the morning,Never mind staying up all night dancing
