Three from me You Make Me Feel Mighty Real-Sylvester Stomp-Johnson Brothers Cathedrals-D.C.Larue Definately played at The Ritz , but not at WC ......... Guest Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 (edited) and number 7 come to think of it But Mr.B I am positive that Car Wash was played at WC by both Richard and Minshull When I posted the tunes up this morning Phil , I had a nagging doubt in the canyons of my mind that " CW " may have been played I never heard it played at WC when I was there at the time of its' popularity elsewhere . Can someone confirm it was / they heard it played at WC ? Malc " keep those rags and machines hummin' " Burton Edited May 9, 2010 by Malc Burton

grantdyche Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Car Wash the Question!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I never heard it at Wigan, Not saying it wasn't, But I never heard it there, Loads of other "New York Disco" tracks were played though
grantdyche Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Yeah right and l never heard any Jackie Wilson records there either.. Tis nowt but a lie your honour The before mentioned Jackie Wilson had many a tune played at the Heart Of Soul, "The Who Who Song" being a fine example The common and muck type of ditty that shall be known as "The Car Wash" Was never played at the before mentioned establishment for nocturnal dancing and other recreational activities, And so it will be sent for ever in to the hell and damnation that is called "Channel 4's greatest disco hits off all time" That is of course til I get pi**ed at a party and tell everyone its a NS tune
Guest Perception Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 TONS!!! Three from me You Make Me Feel Mighty Real-Sylvester Stomp-Johnson Brothers Cathedrals-D.C.Larue Who cares, apart from Cathedrals was played in the Mecca, and is a bit iffiy anyway!
Godzilla Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Car Wash the Question!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I never heard it at Wigan, Not saying it wasn't, But I never heard it there, Loads of other "New York Disco" tracks were played though Car Wash was definitely played at Wigan. I remember discussing with pals about how the 'walky backwards and forwards dance' - or 'lolloping" as we christened it - looked perfectly normal at the Ritz but strangely out of place at Wigan, as some guys lolloped out of their seats and onto the dancefloor to the handclap intro.
Pete S Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Cathedrals was played at Wigan, so was Salsoul 2001 or whatever it was called
Pete S Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT! Cathedrals was? Do you know who played it,Pete? Not for definite but it could have been keith Minshull because he was playing things like Miroslav Vitous - New York City for a short time
grantdyche Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Nice one!! Read it and weep Malc and Grant! Its humble pie for tea tonight then for me and Malc, The posting about the walking backwards and forwards dance type thingy, They all (The Mecca lot) did it at the Ritz, but I never remember anyone doing it at Wigan And if I'm wrong then I'm wrong,Never heard it at Wigan myself though,I must have been in M's or having a Jimmy Riddle
Phil_H Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Right you disbeliever....it's time for me to pop into my friends list Jill Bayles and Grantdyche or anyone.....Where are you? It was played alongside...Centre City...Boogie With Your Baby..Captain Of My Ship...Don't Leave Me This Way....late 76-early 77 I''LL BE BACK!! Well I do remembering it being played at WC, I can vividly remember the echo from the back wall of the into of this and Spring Rain.
grantdyche Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 If Phil H says it was played then it must have been

Pete S Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Its humble pie for tea tonight then for me and Malc, The posting about the walking backwards and forwards dance type thingy, They all (The Mecca lot) did it at the Ritz, but I never remember anyone doing it at Wigan And if I'm wrong then I'm wrong,Never heard it at Wigan myself though,I must have been in M's or having a Jimmy Riddle For a few weeks there were several "Mecca" types, I remember the girls wearing dresses made out of bin liners and the lads wore big baggy sweaters and drainpipe jeans. They stood at the bootom left of the room if you were looking towards the stage.
grantdyche Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 hey you, most things are haze from those days , but not that. when are you coming out to play Mr D? grantdyche Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Now,now stop being sarchastic because you were so dreadfully wrong I wasn't being sarcastic Phil,What I meant was that Phil H remembers everything and he was there with me at the time,He said it got played so It got played Now wheres that pie

Guest theoriginator56 Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Not for definite but it could have been keith Minshull because he was playing things like Miroslav Vitous - New York City for a short time defo keith along with jam jam jam . atmosphere strut . dance your ass off inside america juggy jones etc etc. car wash spun by RS. Guest Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 (edited) ls it on an E.P.? No , but the UK 7" release - see below - was released for some reason , at 33 ⅓ RPM . Roberta Kelly " Trouble - Maker " / " Think I'm Gonna Break Someones Heart Tonight " UK GTO , catalogue number # GT 71 ( 1976 ) / Format: : 7" Vinyl / 33 ⅓ RPM The record also came out in 1976 on two other European labels , but these were 45 RPM , and had a different B - Side to the UK release . " Trouble - Maker " / " The Family " Atlantic ( France ) catalogue number # 10 722 " Trouble - Maker " / " The Family " Durium ( Italy ) catalogue number # DE 2894 Malc Burton Edited May 13, 2010 by Malc Burton
ianr Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 TONS!!! Three from me You Make Me Feel Mighty Real-Sylvester Stomp-Johnson Brothers Cathedrals-D.C.Larue Sylvester was definately played at Casino
steve Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 No , but the UK 7" release - see below - was released for some reason , at 33 ⅓ RPM . steve Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 ls it on an E.P.? No, 7" single, just strange, anyone know why?
Guest Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 (edited) Thanks for the info Mark, it just seemed a bit strange having it on that speed, I looked further into why the UK release was 33 1/3 RPM , but to no real avail . I thought it may have had something to do with the release being the album version ( 8 : 48 ) , but it was / is the edited version , which despite not stating the time of the track , is likely to be either 3 : 59 ( the French Atlantic release ) or 4 : 01 ( the Italian Durium release ) . " Trouble - Maker " was the B - Side of the US release in 1976 : " Love Power " / " Trouble - Maker " ( US Oasis , catalogue number # OC 409 , Time 3 : 59 ) . " Love Power " was a cover version of the 1967 recording by The Sandpepples , which was written by Teddy Vann Malc Burton Edited May 14, 2010 by Malc Burton
Dave Thorley Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 Just to clarify Pete, the walking backwards and forward dance, irecall vividly at Wigan being performed by Steve(Srange)Harrington ! and he had a long girlie type scarf wrapped aroung his neck as well him and Julie Dyke from Gloucester were dancing to Elusive. just a bit later he started the bin bag thing and cross dressing parties(ask the Blackwood guys they will verify) Really strange what we remember considering what went down our necks!! Steve I thought you were cross dressing long before that:D Dave
Guest Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 (edited) Did anybody else hear it there? Sylvester ? I would have said it could have possibly been played during the " anything goes " period at WC in 1977 , but as it was released in 1978 , I am very doubtful , but I am open to correction should it be creditable confirmed .
