Just been listening to a live Wigan tape , mid 70's , and this record got hammered , heard it a few times at oldies nights in the 80's , but not since then , does it still get played and what's the dancefloor reaction , is it single only or included on an album somewhere ???

Wouldn't be seen dead with it in my playbox. But it's a great pop record and I have a copy.

Got the Roger Earl Okin on Columbia which is a tad slower and male of course.

No it's not, he wrote it but his version came out a lot later than Helen Shapiro's.

Hmmmm I am sure I read it in RC when they interviewed him recently, if I got it wrong sorry.

Wasn' t there another version on Destiny as well........Think there was another version of Spring Rain as well on Destiny.Someones going to come on and say the woman that recorded it was a dinner lady in a Nottingham comprehensive or something.

Think his came out in 68 or 69, used to have a demo, might be wrong

If my memory serves me right.... huh.gif

Rushton-Inferno

Roberts-Destiny.....or l could be wrong yes.gif

Was Inferno original release reissues and Destiny cover versions then.

As I say Mark a very good record. Just wouldn't play it out. Same as Kiki Dee, Paula Parfitt, Sue Lynn etc, I like all of them, and have copies in my collection.

There's even a Cilla Black version (LP only) and I think I had one by Jimmy Clanton. Barry St John - fantastic.

Skipped through a few posts.

So this Carol Kay version is some sort of tailor made?

Still great, though.

If it's a Casino night it should be played, it was a monster so should the other Big floorfilling "POP" tunes otherwise you are doing what the yanks do with their version of history in their films.

Not that I'm the slightest bit interested in going to one but how are you "rewriting history" you can't play every record ever played there & perhaps the DJs involved are playing their own favourite casino memories & to them it may not include pop music whether it's a good dancer or not ?

Then this must be one of the many over looked classics that dont fit in todays scene

Sold my copy good few years ago now £100.00 i think

Great record remember dancing my arse off to it at Wigan I played a copy at the Seattle weekender last November Just to show a few of our U.S. brethren that it was possible to bring a dancer from the other side of the pond:thumbsup:

To my mind they are the oldies that deserve to be played out these days. I'd rather hear Kiki Dee and Sue Lynn than Frank bleedin Wilson again. laugh.gif

I agree you can't play every record, but a f**king lot of the biggest floorfillers are never played full stop so it can't be a true reflection of the Casino. I'm not saying they are great soul records, but they were certainly Casino floorfillers, and to ignore them is rewriting history.

hatsoff2.gif HI ALL...AGAIN I TOTALY AGREE, AS MUCH AS I RESPECT THE FRANK WILSON IS A RARE RECORD, NOT THE COPYS YOU HEAR OUT ARE NOT, IF YOU CONPAIR THE RAREITY OF JUST THE 4 UK PRODUCED 45s, AND CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG, I HAVE ALWAYS KEPT THE FAITH ON NOT PLAYING SECOND ISSUES AND DEFO NOT PLAYING BOOTLEGS & CDs..I HAVE SAID IT BEFORE, EVEN TO POEPLE THAT HAVE A DJ BOX OF TOP RARE 45s HOW MANY RECORDS IN YOUR COLECTION? KNOWING THAT THE DJ BOX IS THE COLLECTION, IF IT WAS ME DJing I WOULD TREAT THE SPOT AS A REMINDER OF TRENDS CLUBS WITH REAL RARE RECORDS THAT MAY NOT BE TOP PRICE BUT ARE WHAT THEY ARE FORGOTON SOUNDS.yes.gif THIS IS WHY I DONT GET ASKED TO DJ AS I WOULD PUT TO SHAME MANY EGO DJsph34r.gif DAVE(let's start with the ACTION Label)KIL
