Dean
One of those guilty pleasure records as far as I'm concerned, I know I shouldn't like it but can't help it. It's the tune I find myself singing along to in my head without any encouragement other than running up or down a set of stairs at the time. Often leads me to condiser in what fomat was this played prior to its release on Spark. In my memory, picked up lots of plays then dropped from sets immediately upon the spark release. Seem to recall it only being in sets for a few months, but memory may deceive. Was it only available / played as an LP track from: Linda Fields and The Funky Boys - Stop (When You Do What You Do), which I beleive was a French RCA Victor release. Any other release? Just curious. Dean Later addition - see it was the flip to various '83 Euro releases of Shame, Shame, Shame on RCA, much later than the Spark 1976 release. John Benson
I seem to think they were advance copies which were circulating at the time prior to it's release on a 45. As you say, it got dropped 'like a hot potato' when it did come out. You're not on your own either, I always had a liking to it. I also picked up a copy of the LP some time afterwards. But I don't recall it being French, most likely a UK copy, but I'd have to find it out to be sure? Link to comment Social source share

There was a French release for the album John - Linda Fields & The Funky Boys - Stop ( When You Do What You Do ) RCA Victor ( France ) Catalogue number PL 28320 , released 1977 . I think it also gained release in Italy and Germany . Malc Burton Edited April 23, 2010 by Malc Burton Link to comment Social source share

Did the 'Funky Boys' have a single of their own on US RCA - 'Solid Funk' ? I have it and seem to remember it being a minor Mecca spin Mike Link to comment Social source share

Guest
They were crap. I also saw them , and agree with you Pete that the were absolute pony . She could not carry a tune even if she had been given a bucket . I am still puzzled to this day why they were booked at The Casino , as they were better suited to / for the chicken in a basket circuit . Malc Burton Malc - I'd guess it was because of the link with the Spark label - Tommy Hunt etc. You can't book a funk/rock band on the strength of one track to play a 45 minute set. Of course - I had forgotten the Spark link . Was it really only 45 minutes ? it seemed like an eternity Malc Burton Link to comment Social source share

Malc Burton I didn't doubt it Malc - I was just saying that I didn't recall my copy being French Anyways, I've just 'found' it - it's on UK Spark (Surprise surprise!) - called "Satisfied" SRLP 121 (1976) Tracks are: (Side 1) Baby are you satisfied Natural high Climbing the steps of love Shame, shame, shame When I get home We got love (Side 2) Hey big brother Sold my rock 'n' roll (gave it for funky soul) Show it Dance with my baby Solid funk Singing in all harmony Yes Mike, that 45 you mentioned is also on there - "Solid funk" Another brief Mecca spin BTW - I had another listen to "Climbing..." and it's not really stood the test of time! I daren't listen to the rest of the LP though... not just yet anyway! Link to comment Social source share
Dean
thanks for all info to satisfy an idle curiosity. The Spark release (76) would've been before the Linda Fields and the Funky Boys french RCA LP release (77). I'd always had an image of Spark cashing in on the media driven popularity of Northern at the time that may not be justified in this case. I don't recall and don't think I ever knew about the Casino spot. I was around at the time but probably only occasionally for '76 '77. Don't remember even seeing any ads for it though. That one (sounds like thankfully) passed me by completely. Sounding like it was played on Spark pre release most likely as mentioned, unless it was a turd as Pikey suggests. Probably best left as a memory but will continue to sing in my head whenever I run up or down stairs! Thanks, Dean Link to comment Social source share

Guest mel brat
Yes Mike, that 45 you mentioned is also on there - "Solid funk" Another brief Mecca spin I don't recall ever hearing "Solid Funk" played out myself, but it got a US release - on RCA I think. Again recorded in Germany I suspect. Link to comment Social source share
