Orig Format, Linda & The Funky Boys?

One of those guilty pleasure records as far as I'm concerned, I know I shouldn't like it but can't help it. It's the tune I find myself singing along to in my head without any encouragement other than running up or down a set of stairs at the time.

Often leads me to condiser in what fomat was this played prior to its release on Spark. In my memory, picked up lots of plays then dropped from sets immediately upon the spark release. Seem to recall it only being in sets for a few months, but memory may deceive.

Was it only available / played as an LP track from:

Linda Fields and The Funky Boys - Stop (When You Do What You Do), which I beleive was a French RCA Victor release. Any other release? Just curious. Dean

Later addition - see it was the flip to various '83 Euro releases of Shame, Shame, Shame on RCA, much later than the Spark 1976 release.

I seem to think they were advance copies which were circulating at the time prior to it's release on a 45.

As you say, it got dropped 'like a hot potato' when it did come out.

You're not on your own either, I always had a liking to it. I also picked up a copy of the LP some time afterwards.

But I don't recall it being French, most likely a UK copy, but I'd have to find it out to be sure?

Did the 'Funky Boys' have a single of their own on US RCA - 'Solid Funk' ? I have it and seem to remember it being a minor Mecca spin

I also saw them , and agree with you Pete that the were absolute pony . She could not carry a tune even if she had been given a bucket .

I am still puzzled to this day why they were booked at The Casino , as they were better suited to / for the chicken in a basket circuit .

Malc - I'd guess it was because of the link with the Spark label - Tommy Hunt etc. You can't book a funk/rock band on the strength of one track to play a 45 minute set.

Anyways, I've just 'found' it - it's on UK Spark (Surprise surprise!) - called "Satisfied" SRLP 121 (1976)

BTW - I had another listen to "Climbing..." and it's not really stood the test of time!

I daren't listen to the rest of the LP though... not just yet anyway!

thanks for all info to satisfy an idle curiosity. The Spark release (76) would've been before the Linda Fields and the Funky Boys french RCA LP release (77). I'd always had an image of Spark cashing in on the media driven popularity of Northern at the time that may not be justified in this case.

I don't recall and don't think I ever knew about the Casino spot. I was around at the time but probably only occasionally for '76 '77. Don't remember even seeing any ads for it though. That one (sounds like thankfully) passed me by completely. Sounding like it was played on Spark pre release most likely as mentioned, unless it was a turd as Pikey suggests.

Probably best left as a memory but will continue to sing in my head whenever I run up or down stairs!

I believe they were a Black American group(?) based in Germany, and the song was recorded there.

I don't recall ever hearing "Solid Funk" played out myself, but it got a US release - on RCA I think. Again recorded in Germany I suspect.
