Harold Burrage - Fifty fifty - M-PAC

Oh yesssss! Not sure who broke it but aways reminds me of Mr Walls playing it in the late 80s at ? Glenrothes/Shotts etc

Sounds just fab too for now (played this out last month), R&B but with balls and Soul, not some twangy rock and roll sh**e!

Excellent choices already, great independant Chicago record label(s)

McKinley Mitchell - The town I live in - One-derful 4804

What a vocal on this!! One of the first Chicago hard soul 45's I bought....

JOHNNY SAYLES - DONT TURN YOUR BACK ON ME - MAR-V-LUS -

Hardcore, gritty, take no prisoners, Chicago soul...

OTIS CLAY - THAT'S HOW IT IS WHEN YOU'RE IN LOVE - One-derful 4848-

"Please someone take your hand and slap some sense into me" great deep, and Otis still going strong today

SHARPEES - IVE GOT A SECRET - One-derful 4842

Class midtempo..

HAROLD BURRAGE - GOTTA FIND A WAY - M-pac7225

The godfather of Chicago hard soul, mentor to Otis Clay, Tyrone Davis etc...

(also love Fifty Fifty mentioned above, agree should be played out more...)

Martin.

A briliant stable of labels full of great music across the spectrum of soul and rnb and I am sure at least one release from this set of 3 labels is in everybodys list .

I have an old tape off John Powney which has a great un-released One-derful track by Syl Johnson titled " I've been talked about " . I often wonder who that went too or who's collection it is now in as I have never heard it out and it should be heard just great .

I know the Admirations - Don't Leave Me has been mentioned a couple of times, but that really is a cracking record.

I've always like Liz Lands - Don't Shut Me Out too. Lovely number - fabulous production.

I'm currently deeply in love with Beverly Shaffer...

BEVERLY SHAFFER, WHERE WILL YOU BE, ONE-DERFUL -

Not just that track, but also her vocals on 'I Simply Love Him' make me go weak at the knees wub.gif

A mate of mine got an unissued acetate of hers, fabulous it is too. Don't Try To Explain I think it's called.

Al Coney bought some old OneDerful reels years ago. Think they just need transferring to summat more playable

Scanned down hoping nobody had mentioned the awesome 'Behave yourself' but I agree, absolutely brilliant record. Unique, top notch production and one of the best if not the best Youthful Soul vocals I've ever heard!

Glad to see BEVERLEY SCHAFFER getting a mention too, a lovely midtempo girly tune, if anybody has one in good nick, I have a home for it!

All in all, what with THE ADMIRATIONS, ULTIMATIONS etc, these labels really do represent some of the best value-for-money quality 60s Soul releases that you can buy and I absolutely cherish my copies.thumbsup.gif

Some of my favourites are:

Harold Burrage - A Long Way Together (great B side)

Five Dutones - Nobody But My Baby (bouncy sound, reminds me of CODs-Michael)

Does a record on one of these labels share similar backing track to Morris King's - Broadway Time?

Maybe I'm imagining it, but I thought there was one by Otis Clay or Johnny Sayles but I can't remember what it is.
