Guest Beeks Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 (edited) You know what...as much as I love my R&B these days just slipped on Leon Ware's Musical Massage and had completely forgotten just how good he is LEON WARE - WHERE YOU ARE - I Wanna Be Where You Are still sends shivers down my spine...so here I am at 11.45pm pulling out loads of albums from my past Surely i'm not the only one that does this?! Do you sometimes plow through your old stuff that you havn't touched for years and love records all over again? And another question for you...has your musical taste changed considerably within the soul genre over the years? Were you into 60s then slowly got into 70s or vice versa?! ImberBoy Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 Mega toon! I love that style, under stated lyrics, sung and commanded with no effort, reminds me of a great cup of coffee after a busy day! Love it!
paup-ine Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 Always loved my northern, but going more to the modern side these days, and finding I have some cracking sides now that I thought were just mediocre years ago. P Having said that, recently sold some 60s northern, and hearing them recently on radio etc.. thinking hell whats that, oh yeh I had that .

Hey up Beeks, fab tune, Mr Ware is the sensual genius. Loved his collaborations with Maxwell particularly. He's still a horny old devil even now at 70, lol.

Guest Polyvelts Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Recently bought the 2 disc deluxe edition of 'I want you' with awesome alt versions etc, and with all total respect to Leon - this album by Marvin Gaye is the greatest soul music ever made...............IMHO
Emjaygee Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 I've been across the board since the year dot. Started at Yate then through Stafford etc and beyond I was a semi known Modern DJ but still buy anything that i like and is affordable Recently bought some 60's things i liked from back in the day, Arabia by the Delcos, the two unissued September Jones tracks that Mr Flynn used to play, through to some 12" recent tunes that i have heard by word of mouth. Actually just got the new CD from Angela Johnson, absolutely love it!!! But can't say i like to go anywhere that is limited, like modern/crossover only, or oldies etc. I want a bit of everything. I do pull out my old LPs and tunes from time to time and sometimes revel in the classiness of it all, and sometimes think what the fcuk is that!!! So in answer to the above.......Yes.
Guest WPaulVanDyk Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 for me i started out only liking more commercial soul and then hearing Move On Up by Curtis Mayfield led me to more Northern soul songs. Which i am glad for. I have never changed and got away from Northern, just accpet newer sounds and enjoy both. i do sometimes dig out old LP's in collection and play them.
Daved Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 LEON WARE I THINK PRODUCED THE WHATS GOING ON ALBUM ,SO IS THE I WANNA BE WHERE YOU ARE TRACK THE SAME AS MARVIN'S? Leon Ware produced Marvin's I Want You LP which included a song called I Wanna Be Where You Are but it's different to his own song of the same title. All Leon Ware stuff is brilliant. Musical Massage is my favourite LP of his but I also love the well known stuff like "That's Why I Came To California". he;s got his own distinctive style and is a very talented man. Check out the Leon Ware and Friends CD that came out on Expansion last year. There's some awesome stuff on there by Chuck Jackson, Rockie Robbins and others. https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_3_9?url=search-alias%3Dpopular&field-keywords=leon+ware+and+friends&sprefix=leon+ware Also, my musical tastes have evolved over the years - like the music
Little-stevie Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 Interesting point Beeks.. Don't know of many folks who have come from modern soul into the Devils music , in such a short space of time Always good to see where people came from and where they are at now... My first love motown i guess and super bad lps and reggae aged 12 to 14... Then onto ska/ 60s beat and into Northern with Queens Hall niters.... My taste is pretty loose, 60s/70s Northern, deep funk, latin, deep soul ballads, RnB and a bit more too... An open mind to many styles does the trick for me... I don' get the chance to get all my tunes out of late, gonna get back on to it soon, nothing better at any time of the day or night....
Guest TONY ROUNCE Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 I don't have any 'forgotten past' as far as music goes, I'm always listening to a mixture of everything that I've liked along the way (this morning it's been Bo Diddley, Van McCoy and Huey Lewis & the News)... ...mind you I do often have trouble remembering what I did half an hour ago, so it's my forgotten present that's more of a worry these days...
