I went to that one, I think Pat Brady may have djd that nite can't remember anyone else. I do remember it was a really good nite though, it was a nice tidy place unlike the Casino. I may be wrong but wasn't it on from 9 till 9.

Ah the Carousel what great niters they had there.

A lot of great memories for me.

I think Paul Johnson used to DJ there a lot,if my memory is correct.

I went a few of times in the 80s, it was renamed "Sloskys" then later to be known as the International 2.

I think this subject may have been done before so forgive me anybody reading this for the second time. But I think I spent one of the coldest nights ever there (and I've been to Prestatyn in February!!) on the balcony at the side of the dancefloor huddled under my suedette coat. The first time I went was my first ever niter and I didn't know one record for hours until somebody played Landslide. I remember being very scared of some of the strange people there, it all seemed so much darker somehow than the mod scene I was used to and everybody kept going on about gear - we thought they meant clothes, we were very naive, still at school.

What made me feel better though was that Richard Searling used to do those nights and he was always very friendly and I felt like I knew him off the wireless smile.gif

I would sometimes wander up and ask for records I'd heard him play on his show. I remember he was well surprised that a little 16 year old mod girl was asking him for Thelma Jones and General Johnson but I used to tape his radio show and then listen to it all week.

I saw Malcolm talcum last year on one of my trips to the dole when I was between jobs.

He didn't recognise me without his vest on :-)

Chris, as I've probably said before on another thread, has gone awol. He was in a bad way last time I saw him. He was out and about on the scene for a year or so round about 2004/5 and come to a few Manchester nights and Sheridans a few times. Keep thinking he will turn up somewhere but he doesn't. Every now and then I mither people on here to see if anybody has seen him but they haven't. I do hope he's okay!

Nick and Mike I see sporadically every few years or so. Keep meaning to meet them both one day at the footy but I never arrange it as they're both technophobes...well Mike is definitely, Nick does venture on here from time to time. And I am rubbish at remembering phone numbers :-)

Do you remember the other lads from Manchester, Chris Morgan and Nige from Urmston way and a mod called Steve. Then there were the Stockport lot - Ian and Woody and his girlfriend Jackie who later went out with Roger Banks. Nick and I also used to work with Dave Corley-remember him? I haven't seen him for years..

Not sure Sharon, there was quite a lot of us at one time.

I also Remember Blonde Denise, she went out with Paul Barnes for a while.

And a Mod couple who i think were from Bury,She had Blonde Hair, and her Boyfriend's name just escapes me right now.

Also i remember Jonah.

I used to mither the life out of Jonah everytime i saw him.

Cause he had a copy of Sue Lynne - Dont pity me. And he would not sell it me.

I wonder if he still has it lol.

Ahhh the Carousel...and the first time I ever dropped gear. I think because of that I have a vivid memory of dancing all night there.

I used to do Tony Justs record stall as well, got my Pegs from Stolen from Ivor and my leather from off a stall there as well.

I don't remember anyone at all FFS.

How come I can remember records and sounds and not people, faces, names huh.gif

The place was run by my mate Martin Christie who had previously run The Belle Vue (nighter's/dayers). I don't think I missed one as I remember it was quite up market with lights on every table which were set back around the dance floor. Every other week it was an Irish club. I also remember buying a Frankie & Johnny British demo off Richard for £22, he wanted £35 but after seeing me begging all my mates to lend me cash till I got home he let me have it. The Stockport soul crew always turned up, cafe on the left as you went in then steps down to the oval dance floor, dj booth on the right and any dj worth having played his set there. I still see Martin from time to time and we talk about these and the Belle Vue nights as if they were yesterday.

Sure this was the venue that as we pulled into the car park something was kicking off out side the door and it didn't look good,we sat it out until it was blown over.As we made our way to the door some of the windows were out and word was some punks had caused some bother, could of been the night Keithw was on about.

I loved the Carousel Nighters. Nice big dance floor and a balcony. Remember both Richard and Russ being very approachable and happy to chat there. Happy memories of seeing Gil Scott Heron and Bobby Womack performing live there too.

I remember a few of us once in a transit van on our way to the Carousel broke down on the M62 right next to the little house on the prairie.
As we were stood about on the hard shoulder I thought bolloxs to this and decided to walk to the next exit (Saddleworth Moor junction 22) as you do. Think it was around midnight-ish and the motorway was quiet and near deserted.

Only walked a few hundred yards when I heard a car approaching from behind so I stuck my thumb out ( as you did in them days)and the driver just clamped all on (I can vividly recall the car weaving about as it braked hard with smoke coming off its tyres).
Another lad from our van saw what was happening and set off running up the road to catch up with me.

We jumped in the car and told the driver where we were going and he dropped us off outside Manchester Town Hall. Nice One.

When we got in the taxi and told him where we wanted to go - the driver turned round and with a sharp intake of breath said summat like "what you going there for?" then promptly dropped us off a hundred yards or so from the club as he didn't want to pull up outside.

Stuff you did when you were younger eh?

Derek

Pretty sure Siz dj'd there went with him a couple of times.

used to buy quite a lot of stuff from Tony's stall in the market, one quiet afternoon me siz and tony disappeared to a bar somewhere in Manchester, can't remember who's else but that was where the SNOBS idea was born for Siz's soul nights (soul nights over Britain)

Yes , Siz  would definately have djed there , also i remember Hovis from Oldham or Rochdale  djing ,  Think Siz and Tony Just  took over where Martin Christie left off with their  Sunday all dayers at The Ardri in  Hulme , I think round about this time the pair of em cashed in on the 79 mod revival  by slanting  some events that way .

I remember Hovis was hanging about near the entrance talking to somebody whilst waiting to do his spot when someone came out and told him the fellow djing at the time had just gone into his record box and was now playing his copy of Kenny Gamble TJOY which was an exclusive at the time. If you thought Usain Bolt was quick off the mark you should have seen him shoot back in. :D  .
