Went out to the pictures last night to see "Cemetery Junction" the new Stephen Merchant & Ricky Gervais Filum

Set in the 1970s-a tale of 3 lads

The scene that made me wonder about Ricky is in the dance hall towards the end. A live group are on the stage and singing "Do I love you" (indeed I do)", there are a couple of lads dancing Northern and doing floor word etc. Next song is a version of the Jackson Sisters "I believe in miracles"

Now that's 2 seriously odd ball songs to pick in a film score and both wouldn't really be known out side these circles (although both have cropped up on the telly a lot)

Anyone know anything ??

Laughed outloud when I heard the title and just had to ring my mum.

I used to catch the bus to school at Cemetary Junction and in fact

went to saturday morning pictures there too.

I didn't however remember the actual Cemetary, but was put right

and now know I am related to quite a few old bones buried in said cemetary.

The Top Rank in Reading was the HOTSPOT and had a very small dark room

upstairs a bit like Mr Ems playing black music 73, 74, 75, wouldn't have

known Ricky G from adam but bet you he spent all his time in BIG room

trying to pull to Kung Foo Fighting!

Just pulled these off Chalks thread in FreebasingAlan --you'll never amount to anything in the words of the filum !!some corking one liners in there as well-go and see it !!

On Calendar they were talking about the new Ricky Jervais/Stephen Merchant film Cemetery Junction. Didn't quite catch it but there was a version of Do I Love You in the review and some club? As I said I didn't quite see it as was in kitchen. It wasn't Frank Wilson btw.

Apparently Cemetery Junction is in Reading.

Saw it myself, got the impression from the clip that the club was suppposed to be a northern venue, (wigan?)

If anyone looks like a camp dale winton it's you Rob...

" Camp " .............

Camp is an aesthetic sensibility , wherein something is appealing because of its bad taste and ironic value . The concept is closely related to kitsch .

Hi Alan,

If memory serves me right it was 6d to sit in the stalls and 9d for posh upstairs circle,

always went downstairs to save 3d for either a ZOOM or FAB lolly in the interval!yes.gif

The atmosphere towards the end of the morning could be electric, with stamping feet,

clapping, cheering and lolly stick throwing as the baddies were being set upon by

the gang of kidswicked.gif usually from a childrens film foundation movie.

What nice memories, if a bit clouded, for a Tuesday morning.

Love to Sharon and family,

Karenxxx (and Pete)

It was on the telly on saturday night so you should be able to watch it on some i-player if i could remember which channel it was on.

Damn, missed it ............... & it's not due to be on again real soon ....

... https://www.tvguide.co.uk/searchfilm.asp?title=Cemetery%20Junction

What channel was it on ??

Worked in Reading till 5 years ago (4gudol Thames Water), so know the place well. I'd watch this for the Reading related bits & for the soul content.

Were bits of the film actually shot in the town ??

Chatted lots back then with a local 2nd hand record shop guy who had been into soul (NS) since the 70's .... he related tales of what the locals used to get up to back then (including the coach trips up to Wigan).
