Little-stevie Posted April 22, 2010 Author Posted April 22, 2010 How was Candi Staton ? I really had a good time, great crowd, full house and up for it... When she did you've got the love at the end it was great to see the whole place rocking..... She was in great voice and looked about 40 years old and still got it .... Maybe the man in her life is keeping her looking young, she just got wed this year... A very good gig indeed from a real soul lady....
Bigsoulman Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 Was it not full of pink stetson dumb bells just there to hear THAT song, sorry for being a cynic
Guest Darks Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 Rob if you go ask her about upper hand did she record it as i belive she denies it. EMPRESS BALLROOM MEXBOROUGH S649JB. 24TH APRIL MAIN ROOM BRIAN RAE, GAZ SIMON, COL DENHAM ALTERNATE ROOM, PINCHES TWINS, JOHN DURANT, COL DENHAM, GAZ SIMON She must have done as she sang it live. TBH sounded awful in what was otherwise a great show. I was a bit surprised as I always thought she had denied all knowledge of it. High points were "I'm just a prisoner..." and "in the ghetto". Well worth a trip oh and Mick Talbot is on keyboards. Regards Alan PS no pink stetsons but I know what you mean. I suspect a lot of people were there via "you got the love" rather than "too hurt to cry".
soulmac Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 Was it not full of pink stetson dumb bells just there to hear THAT song, sorry for being a cynic Lenny, Caught her show last year at Dunfermline, well worth seeing. Her last couple of albums are very good. She's on at the HMV picture house Edinburgh this Friday the 23rd. On your home turf but think you've got a charity soul night on Friday. soulmac.
Phil_H Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 Rob if you go ask her about upper hand did she record it as i belive she denies it. We was there tuesday night, she said 'upper hand' was the first recored she recorded and didn't sell to many copies, tbh i was stunned to hear it, and thought it sounded good. Phil

Phil I'm just in from seeing her Edinburgh show. Thought she was great, loved the rambling intro to "Rather be an Old Man's Sweetheart" and was chuffed that she did "Upper Hand" for "all the Northern Soulers who've been asking me to sing this song on Facebook". A great show all in all, no Pink Stetsons but I've had more than my share of Blue WKD's spilled on me tonight by very drunk young girls who knew only one line of "Young Hearts Run Free"! On the up side, my missus said that because the female backing singer was so gorgeous, she'd let me off drooling over her all night!
