boba Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Sorry if it's in the wrong place, but this is brilliant! I was waiting for the train (downtown chicago) the other day and there were 3 kids (oldest one must have been about 14, youngest one was like maybe 9) doing a temptations thing, their parents were there with them. The biggest kid was doing david ruffin and he was pretty good, the other two kids couldn't sing (one was doing eddie kendricks' part and was okay, the other was too young and couldn't sing at all) but it was still awesome, they were dressed up and doing steps and stuff. usually it's the same 3 guys singing the same sam cooke songs so this was a nice change.
Diggin' Dave Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 (edited) Listened to this 5 times in a row and really can't believe the talent on this guy. The man takes the tune to new heights Someone from NY track this guy down! Edited April 14, 2010 by Diggin' Dave

ImberBoy Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Mind blowing! It is such a shame that a voice like that isn't worshipped and appreciated by the great unwashed! I am always stunned when such a belting vocal is experienced and I can imagine the joy of his fellow train users hearing an angel in such an unusual setting. It is experiences such as these that makes me take time out and remember that the world aint all crap! Ace youtube fine, thank you for posting it.

Guest Dave Turner Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 (edited) AWESOME!!Chances are he's known somewhere in the past on record either as a solo or group vocalist. There are also a lot of great church vocalists who never made a record.Possibly a prime example of two or three records, never made it because the label didn't have clout and back to the day job.And again with "Sitting On The Dock Of the Bay"Not wishing to divert away from the original busker but take a look at this lady, there's lots of clips of her on the tubeJust so much relatively unknown talent out there. Edited April 14, 2010 by Dave Turner
Guest Dave Turner Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 (edited) Sorry folks for the above, it all went skewiffle Alice Tan Ridley is the sister of the late Roger Ridley, another great street performer. Edited April 14, 2010 by Dave Turner
Aragorn Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Only just seen this topic and watched the 2 YOU TUBE clips.....WOW! such stunningly, bewtiful voices, made the hairs on me arms stand on end.Found it quite emotional, also, and wept with sadness to watch the 2 singers having to busk on the streets to make ends meet, I presume. Fanx for putting this on Soul source,as I'm not a avid computer buff, and have never ventured on to YOU TUBE,so would never have seen this. Soo Holmes
Agentsmith Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 yep, thats a big FIND THIS MAN!, just goes to show which generations got the talent, because todays youth sure aint got any or any roots. rob.h

Pete S Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 We've got loads of people like this in Wolverhampton, sitting on benches, shouting. Shall I film a few of them?
Bigsoulman Posted April 14, 2010 Author Posted April 14, 2010 (edited) You lot are really going over the top this time. Pete, even an old grump like you surely can feel for this poor old man who has one hell of a voice, I mean for a subway Edited April 14, 2010 by BIGSOULMAN
Pete S Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Pete, even an old grump like you surely can feel for this poor old man who has one hell of a voice, I mean for a subway I'm not being grumpy or facetious, just sounds like a shouty bloke to me, not saying he can't sing.
Bigsoulman Posted April 14, 2010 Author Posted April 14, 2010 I'm not being grumpy or facetious, just sounds like a shouty bloke to me, not saying he can't sing. Think he has to shout with all the bloody racket that's in the background
Guest wigantojapan Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Sorry folks for the above, it all went skewiffle Alice Tan Ridley is the sister of the late Roger Ridley, another great street performer. Briiliant good that folks were giving him money sad that they never stopped to listen great to see people in the streets dancing looks like in santa monica anyway the local council supports this type of entertainment which makes a welcome change from many councils in Scotland where they see it as begging disgraceful but that another topic
oldsteve woomble Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 You lot are really going over the top this time. I think I know what you're saying Pete, and part of me would of course agree...... Based upon the plethora of amazing voices that we soul fans have been exposed to over the many years, I suppose we could say that the actual 'voice' is maybe a decent 'average'? And based upon the usual standards upon which we make our 'judgements' then, well, I suppose he's alright..... And yes, there are probably 'buskers' and street performers all over the world as good, better, worse etc etc However... Maybe it doesn't come much more 'soulful' than to be resigned to your twighlight years, knowing that all of your hopes, all your dreams, have been consigned to the filing cabinet of life as you while away your final mortal hours in the unwelcome recesses of the reaper's departure lounge.... And going out and doing the only thing you know that you think you might be good at, and that might, just might, put food on the table today. And performing, once again, with all of your heart and soul, what you know best and what for so many years was the basis of your cruelly unfulfilled dream, in the dark and unforgiving depths of the underground. And being reminded at every, single, performance of the ultimate futility of the misplaced optimism you showed in the heady days of the springtime of your life..... And knowing that the only 'future' to look forward to now is that your hopes and dreams will soon be buried under a tombstone......... Then again he might just be doing it for a laugh, and at the end of the day he's just an old geezer singing karaoke...... But to me, it's like when I listen to those tunes that take me to another time, another place... It's all about painting pictures.... Or summat.

I ain't had a lot of luck in my life Steve but I don't expect someone to film me. Life IS hard. The majority of us don't get to live our dreams.
