Godzilla Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 this is on cleopatra isnt it?? or is there another label?? the old john vincent spin,,,wasnt covered up as the gladiators?? Flip used to get played out too. Sometimes by mistake as loads of copies were labeled the wrong way round. "4th Dimension" is an insane piece of surf music that I'd never part with.

"4th Dimension" is an insane piece of surf music that I'd never part with. i stand corrected!, infact ive been talking to tim brown this afternoon about this record and he mentioned it was on cleopatra so ive got my facts wrong there. yes, it was covered up as the gladiators - "the miami sound" and john was yer man....odd-ball tune but in 74/75 massive floorpacker, but then it wasnt hard to please 1800 souls baying for stompers!....i still want a copy though...incidentally, tim tells me there exists another version....i wonder if it has the "clangers flute-whistle in an echo-chamber" intro?. yes, you're right its insane, its surf, west coast?, but 100mph and i want to see what it does at the tower!, so if someone can oblige i will be grateful. rob.h

Wiganer1 Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 THE OTHER VERSION OF THIS IS ON 20TH CENTURY...TWINE TIME OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT,,,,GOT THE DEMO MY SELF BUT AVENT PLAYED IT OUT....TOO MUCH LIKE HAWAII FIVE O FOR ME.....
Godzilla Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 ....i wonder if it has the "clangers flute-whistle in an echo-chamber" intro?. rob.h That sounds like an accurate description of the intro to the flip side "4th Dimension" that I referred to above. A piece of trivia that I think I've mentioned before is that exactly the same noise is used on one of the Gerry Anderson 'Century 21' EPs: "The Daleks". My guess is that it's from a sound effects library type LP or tape from the 60s.

Godzilla Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 right, so can you put me straight about this then,...the b-side is the same as the a-side, but with the wierd begining yes?. and shoestring is another version...but does that have the wierd begining?....either way can i get a copy of the record with THE WIERD BEGINING?. ive been advised about the one on 20th century but i want to be sure im getting the right record so if someone does have what i want and is willing to sell im waiting to do a deal. rob.h The flip is a different tune called 4th Dimension and is a great surf tune. It has all the sound effects on the intro. The Shoestring 45 is an unrelated vocal called that Candy Andy that has an instrumental on the B side called "Shoop de Hooop Twine. This is exactly the same recording as Jack 23. I'm not aware of a version of Jack 23 with any sound effects on, but - as I stated - I have heard "4th Dimension" played and announced as Jack 23. Probably one of the many mislabeled copies.
