Pete S Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 I've still got it as well! Beautiful stock copy. £50. Not a nibble on it...maybe I should have stuck it up at 100!
Guest Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 (edited) I've still got it as well! Beautiful stock copy. £50. Not a nibble on it...maybe I should have stuck it up at 100! It just needs more plays out I think. Its got everything........ big production and great vocal, brilliant mid tempo dancer, I personally love the record. I have a demo, but if I didn't I would bite your hand off for 50 quid !!! perhaps one for future bigness - a very overlooked quality 45 IMO Edited April 7, 2010 by mossy
Dave Pinch Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 pete had it on ebay last week as a buy it now for £45. i had it in my watches and thought about it coz its a rarer stock copy. its a shame coz some of these big city beat ballad productions are immaculate but price wise there dead in the water and demand is not what it was 10/15 years ago. theres hundreds of titles like this.....................shameful really dave

Things have gone quite funky at the moment haven't they. Its all good, but I have a huge soft spot for Big 60s uptown soul and will always pick up records of this type.

But at the end of the day, I can't afford to keep them, and yeah I make a loss on this one of about 20 quid but on the other hand, I'll sell something for 50 which I only paid 20 for. Certain people get annoyed with me for reducing records saying I shouldn't do it but it's alright for rich people with millions of records in stock, I have to buy what I think I can sell, and if it doesn't, I've no income, so thats why I reduce them. Swings and roundabouts; I paid £15 for a rubbish owen gray record on blue coxsone last year, sold it for 500!

I suppose that's the point a lot of the time with records - some dealers can afford to sit on stuff till it becomes popular / in demand and others are doing it hand to mouth. Which all makes the collecting game really interesting when you are after tunes that may not be well known or in-demand. I have noticed as I am sure everyone has, over the last couple of years, records all across the soul spectrum have been generally getting a lot cheaper. Even Mannys auction has settled down to some sort of level, I have seen some 45s go for sensible prices on there recently. The down turn in prices has make collecting all the more enjoyable for me. I personally don't want records to get more expensive, I want them to get cheaper so I can collect more and more ! But I still cant believe that nobody bought "Neighbourhood girl" off you for that price. Still ............ someone will eventually get a bargain and a fantastic tune when you do sell it
Shsdave Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 Pete has a good reputation for selling at a reasonable price, not only that he's an honest & helpful dealer. Who the hell has the right to tell him that he's too cheap? At a guess the big dealers as Pete says with a million in stock who keep prices artificially high, though I guess they're business men after a fat profit & there's always someone who will pay over the odds End of the day who decides what a records worth ? The buyer of course. Rosalind Madison overlooked ? Bloody Hell 6/7 years ago (in the South at least) you couldn't move for hearing this record, not a bad tune but just another example of flogging it to death which is why you don't hear it these days, as well of course as previously mentioned tastes have changed. It was only selling for 100/150 when flavour of the month so 50quid now is probably a reasonable price. Correct me if I'm wrong Pete but they turn up all the time don't they ? Best Dave
